Denise Matthews finally updated her site about her book...

I know Denise's book Blame It On Vanity has become one of those topics that is annoying for some here to discuss, boring for others, and a joke to the rest razz Anyway, after seeing on youtube a new clip of her speaking at a church about turning to God as a solution for when you feel lonely, I decided to check her site out again. I found this little note on her page:

PLEASE NOTE: We expect the book to come out in March or April. The book is in Hong Kong and is in line for printing. People you can make installment payments. Blame It On Vanity was quite expensive to make, being that is a coffee table book and every page is in color. I make approximately $10 a book after tithes, offering, taxes, shipping and all of those who helped along the journey. In pre-orders free shipping does apply for those living outside the US. Those of you who paid $45 in pre-orders, I will pay $12 for shipping and handling as promised. For those of you who purchase the book after it is released, you will be required to pay $45 dollars, plus $12 Priority shipping tracking and taxes. Remember you may pay in installments payment.

so the new release date is just 1-2 months away, for now lol Has anyone here pre-ordered it? If so, have any of you tried emailing Denise to ask more details about the book's release or contents? From the preview, I'm not sure if this more a sermon than her autobiography... confused Really, I doubt I'll buy this book until after I hear some feedback about it...but if I wait until the book is out it will go up from $45 to $57 to buy it...damn, Denise why in the world did she want to make such an expensive book? confused sad The shipping and handling wouldn't even be an issue if she had decided to use an official publisher and get it out at stores instead of selling it herself...

anyway here's that clip of her from last week at a church...apparently she had 8 surgeries over the past 4 months and she was told she would probably not make it through them...glad she's ok.

From the snippets of this book, it's going to be a train wreck, but hopefully not. There's no reason she had to send it to Japan or wherever to get it printed. There are independent publishing houses in America that would have done it just fine.

All color and a coffee table book? Who is going to sit and read a coffee table book? Those are supposed to be PICTURES, not someone's autobiography. Those points have already jacked the price up more than it should be. I have a feeling folks aren't going to feel they got their money's worth once they get it.

This will all be very interesting to watch unfold.

Yeah,it seems odd that she has turned her life story into some big,over-priced coffee table book where every page is in color hmmm I hate to say this, but she's acting as if she's more important/famous than she really is.

Well said. It's one thing to try and give the fan(s) something a bit more but when you're doing this sort of shiz, it's kind of ridiculous. I can see why Bill Clinton write 600 pages, but Vanity with a coffee book???? It's a bit ironic, too. She shuns her past so much, and won't even say the word "Prince" sometimes, yet she's put that same past in full color and probably in a 14x20 size book.

I have a feeling it's going to be full of photos, random and crappy, and there will be huge captions, like the rambling text she posted on her site recently. Someone is OVER using her thesaurus.

If she had done the book 'the normal way' (no coffee-table format,no glossy, overpriced nonsense with every page in color),she could have released this thing YEARS AGO with no problems or delays.

well people were always more interested in looking at Vanity then listening to her. Maybe Denise thought the same was true now. I doubt that she would be someone who could write a good book, never mind a great one without a ghost writer. If she did all the writing herself maybe it is best that she went for a picture book instead.

My hypothesis:
Her story would be interesting. Maybe she is more like Prince then I thought. Trying to control the whole thing, maybe mistrusting that others would have her back and truly want to help her put her story together in a way that would not lead to litigation. It's a shame. She would have made more money in the long run, got her story out to more people and reached more people with her warnings about fame and fortune. In these days of "Girls Gone Bad" I think that there are alot of people that could benifet from reading her story.
There came a time when the risk of remaining tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. Anais Nin.

it's also a shame she didn't release this waaaay back when she began writing it lol Back in the early 90's, she intended her autobiography to be more of a tell-all, as she named names and said everything she did, as well as what others had done to her. Then she "prayed" about it, and decided to rewrite this with less details/gossip and less naming names...This would have been such a big deal in the early-mid 90's too...now I doubt she'll even get mainstream coverage of it. Not to mention the story will be more boring without names and details lol
