What I don't get is the concept of Prince in courtship vs. Prince the husband.
Is his behavior the same? Or like most normal people does he turn his focus back to his music after he wins her hand in marriage? A man who always puts career first will always be alone. I don't think he has to cheat to lose a woman if he is just putting his music first all the time and saying
"Do you know how many women would love to be my wife?"
"This is what you signed up for remember, woman you knew my music always comes first"
"I'm sorry I wasn't there again, but you know this is my life... I'll make it up to you"

So I would say that naturally after winning the girl, Prince went back to his main thing which is music. The problem is because Prince (like a lot of men) need to have undivided attention from his woman but can't or won't reciprocate that puts the woman in a very awkward position. She can't cultivate her own interests because when Prince wants and needs attention... she must drop everything to give the attention to him. But when he is busy, she must occupy herself with something that he approves of.

One of 2 things will happened.
1) She will feel resentful that her time, need for attention etc are not of great importance where his time, projects and need for attention are of the up most importance. and start to complain

Or 2, she will get own interests and the man will feel neglected and find someone new who will give the undivided attention he wants and the cycle begins again.

I think Mani was in the picture by 1998. New Power Soul was released in June 1998. In this album Prince thanked Manuella on his liner and she appeared in the video "Come" and Prince is dressed as an old man and flirting with her (last 10 seconds of the video) Listen to the lyrics of Come. It sounds to me that if Prince was not bedding her, he was working hard to get her in bed. On same album appears the song "The One" that was about Mayte, his wife.

These songs were probably written and worked around 1997 summer or fall (since Prince's creative turn around time is pretty short... possibly as little 6 months prior to release of album he was writing these lyrics.)

Mayte and Prince was married in 1996, their family experienced tragedy that Fall. Within a year, Mani was in the picture strong. It is not too far fetched to believe that Mayte and Prince were grieving, Prince hit the road rather than stay home and hold Mayte's hand while she cried.... he said in an interview that he wished he could make his wife smile again (or something like that). So maybe he got tired of her grieving, maybe it annoyed him that she grieved. I also read in interview that Prince believed something like if you don't acknowledge that the loved one has died, they will return to you. Something like that. maybe Mayte had to grieve her way, to accept the loss and try to move on.
At any rate, Prince hit the road. Shortly after that, Mani joined the purple inner cirle. How she got entrance... who on the Org knows the real story. I have heard he spotted her at a concert and had his people invite her backstage and I have also heard she applied for job at Paisley Park and worked her way into his vicinity until she caught his eye. At any rate, Mayte was out of the country and visiting family in Spain and enjoying her new mansion that Prince bought for them, while he was in Minnie, recording, and going to JW conversion classes, and that was the hook. Mani it seems was interested in JW too! (Mayte, raised catholic was not). By the time Mayte was tipped off by girlfriends (her buddies) of bandmembers, Mani was redecorating Paisley Park and wearing Mayte's clothes at Celebration parties. More than 1 orger was at that party and recounted the redecorating and the infamous red dress.

^^ The stuff I read on the Org beats any gossip forumn hands down. Now of course I have to say... all speculation. I wasn't there, never been to Minneapolis, but I have read very similar accounts of same story from several long time Orgers, some who either live in Minnie and was at PP all the time for the Celebrations, or is acquainted with insider and heard the gossip that way. One Orger used to be a tailor for Prince before that orger died... so there are some Insiders here on the Org.

Whomever was a part of Mayte's inner circle should have told her BEFORE SHE GOT ON THE PLANE TO SPAIN that leaving a man like Prince alone for weeks at a time was the kiss of death for her marriage. If it wasn't Manuela it would have been one of the many women behind her I am sure.

But it is hard... if the man says stay here, I'll be back... your hands are tied. To go against his wishes would have hasten the demise of the marriage because that is how their relationship was set up. She just had to let him go and hope their would make it through... but not that time.

Go head marry him,let him wine and dine her,dress her in pink cashmere,and be princess to his majesty. Play the game for all its worth, but she better have a potentially lucrative side project or two to focus on when his focus is no longer on her. See the problem is that these female play themselves by believing that Prince's "love" is unconditional and everlasting. People love to be critical of Kimona Lee Simmons, but it would do Prince's wives good to enroll in the School of Baby Phat.

Absolutely. Mayte is trying with her previous experience with dance and performance... but if anyone was suited to be Kimora II, it would be Mani. She seems to have a good style about her, and with college background I imagine she could pick up some business savy as well. She really should have either tried to give birth the the Purple heir, or start a Paisely Park design. If not clothing, the home decor... sort of like Martha Stewart Home, Cindy Crawford home designs. She really went too small with the scent line.
