Jill Jones album...i find it a little boring

I got all hyped and stuff 4 Jill Jones album. I finally waited 2 years 4 it. I found it, played it. Almost fell asleep. Not on purpose though. Her voice is not very exciting as everyone said.

I absolutely couldnt stand her version of All Day All Night.

G-Spot is a little dreary, although i know all the words now.

I have 2 give it up 2 her though on "My Man" damn I love this one.

another one is "Mia Bocca" & "Violet Blue" (violet..which i also think is over-rated).

Well, any1 agree?

I was never overwhelmed with the Jill Jones album.I mean, let's face it,her album mostly consists of 1984 Prince and The Revolution outtakes ("G-Spot","All Day,All Night","Mia Bocca").These are cool songs, but by 1987,they sounded a little...ancient? Another problem is Jill's singing.Yes,she can sing but on this album, she does alot of screeching, yelping and yelling. On most tracks, she tries really hard to emulate Prince,so you never really get to hear the "real" Jill Jones.

I'm not saying the album is a total disaster ("My Man" could have been a Top 10 pop hit, imo),it just doesn't do much for me.

I really liked Jill's album. When it first came out I played it all the time. I thought she was very promising. I like her voice and she has a good presence.

omfg Blasphemy! How dare you not wet your pants over this album. How dare you not think she has the best singing voice of all of the proteges and female band members. You just don't know what you're talking about. How can you call yourself a real music lover?

The original Prince versions of these songs are far superior to the 'finished' versions by Jill.
The production on this album is similar to the way 'We Can Funk','Can't Stop'etc were ruined for 'Graffiti Bridge'.

I have 2 agree! Her vocals would have been alot better off even if Appolonia, Brenda, Sheila, or Vanity, Susannah also. I think Jill was a little 2 out there in vocals 4 me.

I agree, she screams 2 much, and sometimes even sounds like a dumb blonde, like "who is this". I know this album is old and stuff, but u know how we orgers are.! smile

in HindSight I agree Completly with you.Better at the time.Prince gave Her His Usual "PURPLE GUIDE Track"."Violet Blue" was my Cut.the cover of "With you" has that be DOuble Afraid Quality about it&that ain't a Compliment.if the Album drops in 82-83 like it should have or 84-85 when it still could have Capitolize on the Purple Coat Success than it would have saved face but by 87 it was like 3-D Glasses in a Movie House passed it's Prime IMHO.

I think Jill has a great voice and yes,she can sing better than probably any other female Prince protege. However, her album was a little uneven, imo. The songs don't really give her a chance to really SING and show what she's really capable of.She needed a few strong ballads (non-Prince) to balance things out,and give her a little individuality. Her album mainly consists of Prince and the Revolution outtakes from 1984.And wassup with all the Prince-inspired screams, yelps and silly ad-libs ("I gotta go feed the dog"??).

Well she was a prince protege, a female, and a prince girlfriend, back in those days Prince didn't give anyone too much space to do their own thing, if they fit in any of those catagories they didn't get much space to do their own thing. What I really wanna know is why Jill never became a comercial success, you would think with all those connections she had, she would've gotten some break, after all, the girl was (is) talented

I love the album, and hearing it back when it first came out was a WAY different expierence. The whole Prince world was still Paisley and she was a piece to a puzzle, to take that piece out and try to "get it" 15 years later is kind of hard. Back then I would turn on the radio and it was Welcome to the Jungle and Rick Astley, then I'd go get my pretty pink piece of the puzzle and drift away.

sad

I still am looking for the JILL JONES LP...anyone know if it came out on CD??? I owned the LP at one time and it was never given back to me by an ex-friend...

I'm on 4 waiting lists to get the album again...

A friend of mine recorded the album for me but I left it back home...

Anyway...I liked it...didnt blow me away as much as I thought it would but I was pleased nontheless...I own all three 45 singles for "Mia Bocca", "G-Spot" and "For Love" the b-side to "G-Spot"...called "Baby Crys Ay-ya" is a funky little number...

I have a tape performence of Jill doing "G-Spot" and "For Love"...it was one of those major network, late night "In Concert" show...Shalamar (with Mikki Free) perfomed as well "Circumstatial Evidence" and "Games"...Mikki all acting like Prince!
Every minute of last night is on my face today....

I have several sealed copies of Jill Jones album...clean promo saw cut but excellent, factory sealed originals!

But...you have to make me an offer and sweeten it with various Jill Jones videos and Prince video rarities...Org Note me.

Different generations who get hip to Prince will respond differently to Purple albums...

You were what, 4 years old when that came out?

I think there's a comparison to todays technology enhanced singers...not that Jill Jones wasn't but, you know, there were no Plug-Ins, ProTools, etc.

And it was a fresh experience at the time...and it the album still brings back that excitement and you can appreciate it for what it was then during Prince's most creative period.
