Prince 's music like crack?

I'm probably beating a dead horse with this topic, but I really would like to know what got my fellow orgers hooked on Prince's music. I'm 20 and before then I was not thinking about Prince. I believe it all started when he released his Planet Earth album is when I caught the "bug". Being musically adventurous I wanted to see what the hype was about with this diminutive rock star with a rococo fashion sense and boyish good looks. Before then all I could think of was " Is he gay?" Now, I am Obsessed! I want to see him in concert sooooo badly before Jehovah takes him Home or before he is eventually confined to a wheelchair because he won't get those damn hip replacements.Lol!Feel free 2 letta rip!!!! biggrin

The 1st thing I heard was "Little Red Corvette" on the radio, but didn't really pay it any attention.

I had never seen him, before.

A year or so later, we got this show called "Night Tracks" (down in the south, we didn't have MTV) which ran for 6 hours every Friday & Saturday night.

There, I saw "1999" for the 1st time. I was amazed at the music and the overall look of the Revolution.

My buddies and I were hooked. He blew Michael Jackson out of the water, at the time (we were MJ fans, up to that point). Then I saw LRC on there, as well. That's when I started liking that one.

I bought the single version of "Let's Pretend We're Married" on a lark & loved it even more... Imagine hearing these 3 songs & later, hearing the album versions.

By the time Purple Rain hit, we were hardcore fans. I started buying all the older albums, but couldn't get the 1st 2 until I was in Atlanta at my uncle's house.

I was in heaven, by that time.

Mind you, all this was before the real life ugliness of the music business and the prima donna attitudes of rock stars soured my outlook.

Back then, I drank the purple kool-aid everyday... I saw the Revolution as a family and was kind of upset when he fired them (if I remember correctly) after "Parade" to make "Sign of the Times"...
