Tamar Milk & Honey and the mystery

Milk & Honey

01 - Closer To My Heart
02 - Milk & Honey
03 - Can't Keep Living Alone
04 - Holla & Shout
05 - Kept Woman
06 - Holy Ground
07 - Beautiful, Loved & Blessed
08 - Redhead Stepchild
09 - All I Want Is You
10 - First Love
11 - Sunday In The Park
12 - Beautiful, Loved & Blessed (Reprise)

Tamar Davis did the Milk & Honey CD and it never really took off. Only Japan got a few copies before it was cancelled, and there are some floating on ebay, and also some torrents of course with the tracks for download.

I can't help but think Tamar would have had a much better chance of success if she had her CD bundled with 3121, like how Bria Valente had hers on Lotusflow3r. I read on another forum that the CD was cancelled because the publisher didn't think it would sell on its own, which is why Bria got bundled.

Now, which tracks exactly did Prince write, produce, vocalize, etc on on the album?

I can tell that Holla & Shout has Prince's voice at the end. Also, Kept Woman is exactly the same as Bria Valente's. Beautiful Loved & Blessed would obviously be Prince's

I'd like to know this info as well. I've heard various things but nothing firm. Tamar sounds way better & looks better & she has more soul. bria is so bland, I can't understand why he would pick her musically over Tamar, it just doesn't make sense unless she utterly sucks to work w/ or something, or a relationship w/ bria blinded him. I want this cd too. still haven't seemed to come across it. I had high hopes for it too. hated the album cover though. oh well, typical...

Does the back of the CD say anything, or is there a booklet with credits listed?

It is compiled in a Disk called "WoW" with two CDs. One of the CDs has Clare Fischer's insight regarding the orchestration of Parade and the other CD contains the entire "Milk and Honey" CD. There is a booklet inside of the disk which discuss the time of compilation and the problem of the release dates. Sweet..... cool razz

I think it's a great cd. I may be in the minority, but I miss Tamar and Prince working together. She had a pretty voice that blended so well with his and she never over sang him as some others have tended to do. Plus their chemistry onstage was excellent.

I still prefer the Milk and Honey material to her subsequent work even though I like some of her new songs.

I wish I had the cd booklet. sad

I really don't like the way her new music is going from what I have heard. I think the "Milk and Honey" CD gave Tamar some elegance where her new stuff is a little bit more "hip-hop" to my liking....Tamar's chemistry with Prince was so smooth...I think Prince enjoyed their performances together also. razz

Prince's songs were a better fit for her IMO...he gave her a more distinct sound.

Prince and Tamar are credited as co-writers of all of the songs at ASCAP.

Really? I thought the songs Kwame produced for her (the World Domination album or somethin like that?) sounded really good. On Milk & Honey I felt there was only 3 really good songs. It'd be nice if she could combine all the good tracks from all three producers and put out 1 really bad a$$ed CD.
Change it one more time..

I won mine in an auction for about £75 and that's about the lowest price I've ever seen it go for. Do we know how many copies there are?

Not necessarily.
Under the album description, there is a statement about only selling items that are rare and difficult to get.

Just so you know, "Wow" is a pressed bootleg bro. It's not an official release.

It's a great set though, I have it and that's how I also heard the Tamar album, which is above average IMO.

Tamar was a Beyonce clone - Prince was crazy about Beyonce around this time. Who else has Prince ever done a nationally televised performance with (Grammy Awards)?

I always thought the dilemna is that Beyonce isnt all that to start with and Tamar didnt sound or look as good. Sorry - lets face it: if Beyonce was a 300 lbs bogger bear, she might be singing in some little black church somewhere down South and that would be about it.

I finally got this from a friend. biggrin mushy
I had heard the stuff that had been put out through the site but I never listened to the album as an album in entirety.
I've been listening to it for 2 days and it only makes me want to kick P's ass.
To shelf this and put Bria forth. confused
I actually think that in his long career, this was one of the protege projects that showed most promise. The public, not just us P-geeks, was actually getting a little familiar with her from the tv appearances. She stood chance at a fair debut.

All I Want is U is still my favorite.
Sunday in the Park, Holla & Shout, Kept Woman and Red Head Stepchild are all very solid songs and of course there's Beautiful, Loved & Blessed, which is a bit mediocre, but still a nice enough tune and had the nomination going for it. Even if the others sucked (which i don't think they do) that's still more quality music than a lot of new artists put out in one album.

Closer 2 my Heart reminds me of Sheena's Cool Love. lol
