pRINCE sOUNDS DOES ANYONE KNOW THE LOW TOM SOUND PRINCE USED IN THE SONG 1999? AND HOW TO GET A HOLD OF IT ? nAPPY hEADED

WHY ARE YOU YELLING?
Prince often fed the Linn1 drum machine through guitar pedals and detuned them to have different sounds. You can do that.

Why is this in the Associated Artists and People Forum? ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

Jarvius? If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

So no one know's the name off the LOW TOM sound heard in such songs as Controversy, 1999, & Baby Go (Rare Prince Song) ? It kinda sound like "CAUUGHHWOOOOO" with a detuning drop off on the end of it . I know that he used the Linn1 & probably Lm-2 for production, but I cant seem to find that particular sound on those machines at all !! So I'm seeking help !! Either for the machine or that particular LOW TOM sound.... Please let me know !!!! [Edited 1/7/10 0:06am] nAPPY hEADED

linn m-1 and linndrum samples are very popular and easy to come across
why dont you use the internet what it was made for and search for them if you did any research or knew anything about drum machines you would figure that a sound like that is probably drenched in effects as ernest pointed out. you arent going to find the sound as is. you will have to try and recreate it by adding reverb/flanger/etc. in a music production program or hardware if you own any. use some common sense. i may be coming off a bit harsh but if you are so confused about drum samples im guessing you dont really know what you are doing in the first place. unless you just want to listen to the sound for some reason other than production. You're so glam, every time I see you I wanna slam!

Ignorance gets you nowhere !! I wouldnt be on here if it was that easy. Of course I'm on the org so I know a lil about the internet. I was just asking a simple question ! If you know so much, why dont you tell me the sound name, reverb, flangers or any other devices he used to create it !!! Ignorant !!!! [Edited 1/7/10 6:26am] nAPPY hEADED

I answered it. And someone might not have the whole answer either, so don't get bitchy when you are left wondering the answer. MinneapolisFunq did give you a good answer, as did I. I have Linn 1 loops of "Anotherloverholenyohead", "Automatic", "Dorothy Parker" and a couple of others. Know where I found them? ON THE INTERNET. It's not hard to put in "drum samples" or something similar into a torrent site or search newsgroups to find something. So yeah, it IS easy. You know enough about the internet to get an account on Prince.org and post a question, but you can't use Google to start digging around? Come on. Stop being rude, and put your listening ears on.

Ok this is my last post ! Its not that Im being rude, it seems everyone is rude to for posting this. First of all Im a musician who loves that prince from the 80's . And I have access to those machines he used back in the day. All of his sounds didn't come from the Linn Drum. That's why I thought you orger's might have some insight. Half of the time I don't think that you all know what sound that I'm talking about. I have been searching for this particular sound for some months now via internet. I'd figured out that it has some type of effect on it already. I was just looking for clarification as the particular effect on it or even the sound dry(before the effects) name. Bobby Z plays the drum sound during The 1999 tours as well as The Purple Rain tours. So if you can help, help ! Please don't be negative !! Thank You ! nAPPY hEADED

Your question was answered as best it could have been, more than once. If you want more information, I'd suggest looking up Susan Rogers. She's very easy to find online, and could help you achieve jacking Prince's sound. Also try Peggy Mac, or Coke Johnson. The drum machine sound changed from song to song, as well. I already told you once that he fed the drum machine into guitar pedals and detuned the pedals to get different sounds. "Something In The Water", and "Sexuality" and "Private Joy" are great examples of that. You can detune digitally now too. I'm a musician too and have been the majority of my life in some regard. So yeah, I know exactly what you're asking, and I gave you a musician's answer. The level and details of how many dBs the pedals were set at, or how far it was detuned probably isn't going to be online, so that's something as a musician that you'll have to be creative with, instead of trying to copy someone's sound (which is very unoriginal given the amount of detail you are looking for). And yes, you weren't rude. Everyone else was. MinneapolisFunq was rude in telling you to use some common sense and actually THINK about something, instead of being lazy when it comes to creativity. I basically said the same thing above. If you did your homework, you'd see Bobby hitting buttons on the drum machine that sat next to him. He enhanced it with cymbals or whatever, but a lot of those songs were the drum machine, so check your facts before you start barking orders to someone.....not being rude of course.

Get yourself Reason 3.0 with ReDrum plugin, then upload into ReDrum your LinnDrum samples WHICH ARE SOO EASY TO FIND ON GOOGLE. Two days ago I downloaded big pack full of Linn sounds in different tuning. Then it's very easy to detune for example tom sound in ReDrum or to add flanger or echo on clap or rimshot sound.

I was learning that at school. The ReDrum part is still difficult for me. I was trying to put the Linn Drum sounds in but it didn't work....probably because I wasn't paying attention that day "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

Then just find your linn kick drum sound on your harddrive and open it Then do the same thing with the snare etc.

At first I was like "What in the fuck?!" but as time went on, I got the hang of it. Working with ReDrum was cool, it was upping the samples in that was bugging me "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. What really bugs me is Malstrom Graintable Synths and those Samplers

It really bugs me to record it separately and then sample it via Nn-19 sampler

Here ya go: 9991_syad4nnil.mp3 - 1.37MB syad4nnil9991.mp3 - 1.38MB Linn4days@yahoo.com I'm not trying to make it sound exactly the same because I don't have the time to..but, I do not think that he distorts the "Tom-Low" or the "rim/stick" much here, but he adds some Tom Low in-between the rim-shots.. The rim/stick is in a key of "E" with my gear..Don't change the key of the Tom-Low. I have sooo many Linn Samples... Actually, someone here gave me by best set a few years ago. The Euro Techno folks have 'em from The Netherlands.. I've gotten a few from over there, but I do not remember... YHWH is ELohim and Yahoshua is King! Even when I click on the record button, there's nothing - I guess it's just for midi keyboards I was looking for any clue in the manual (yes, for the first time! ) and found nothing

Here ya go... For real this time.. (My Collection of Linns and LM-1s) (.rar [WINRAR compressed files]) LINN_LM-1.rar - 2.36MB (.zip) LINN LM-1 copy.zip - 2.55MB .....You will have to distort them yourself! Believe me. It's better to distort, and flange everything while creating the beat, than doing it to a snare or a BD alone (and making .wavs of everything separately..). I will give you an example of this..
