MPLS (the group Prince put together)

Can someone give me some info or background on the MPLS group that had a song on 1800NEWFUNK. I know there are introductions of the members in the song but I can't understand it. Who are the members and is that the only song they recorded?

After some researach on the net, here's a listing of the show on ABC in the US from 19 December 1992.

The Crayons were consisted of Sonny T (Sonny Thompson -- lead singer), Morris Hayes, the lead guitarist (Billy Franze??), who also play for Mr. Mambo's Combo. The Crayons later turned into MPLS.

"The Ryde Dyvine" was played by the Sonny Thompson-led The Crayons on The Ryde Dyvine TV film, broadcast Dec 19, 1992. The Crayons included Morris Hayes and members from Dr. Mambo's Combo. The project later became Minneapolis. "The Ryde Dyvine" is an energetic, uptempo number that invites listeners to explore their mind. The song promote racial harmony through music. The song was later released on a withdrawn cassette single and later a rare CD single, making it "semi-unreleased."

The track was first heard of The Ryde Dyvine TV special, where it was
credited to The Crayons.

It was later officially released on the very hard to find MPLS CD single
by Minneapolis, which featured 3 tracks...

1. MPLS (4:28)
2. MPLS (12" Mix) (7:00)
3. The Ryde Dyvine (4:17)

the A-side (MPLS) was later also released on the 1-800-NEW-FUNK album,
though strangely the artist and title were swapped round, so the band was
now credited as "MPLS" and track was called "Minneapolis".
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

According to Uptown, Jana Anderson (aka Jana Jade)was actually the female vocalist in MPLS. She is introduced on the song as "cutie pie" and pictured on the record cover.

Thanks for the info! I just saw a "cartoon drawing" of the group on the 1800NEWFUNK cd. Anyone have an actual pic of the group? I also thought I heard the Steeles on the song too?

Who was that model chick that was in the group that once interviewed Prince? The sista. I can't remember her name at the moment.
