Loved the guys guitar playing, very, very fluid sounding, totally different tone than Prince. Scales he used and all. As far as his solo music, like I said it was ok, i wouldn't put anything he's done up there with Jimmy and Terry or Prince. There was lots of talent in that whole scene but no one had the package that Prince did, sure he stole from everyone he worked with, no doubt about it but he also put more together than everyone else. I know he was referring to Jesse when he said in the RS interview back in 85 "god doesn't put everyone in the same bag, I used to say 'I think Morris should be in front'" Jesse tried his solo thing and he had some success. I only listen to his stuff when I just want to hear some decent minneapolis sound. I still maintain, if the group would have just settled the differences with p and each other, kept away from the drugs and stayed the course they could have been huge. I don't know if it's true or not but didn't morris and jesse write Jungle Love? Prince didn't do everything for them. And I'm sure Prince took some snide smug satisfaction when they fell apart. His jealousy and competitiveness were relieved.

Has Jesse Johnson ever written a good song? I don't think I've heard one. I'mnot claiming to have heard many, that's why I'm asking. I'm not being a dick, I just don't know. The few things I've heard by him don't tickle my fancy. I guess I just don't get what everyone likes about him so much. What's the big deal? It's NOT his guitar playing. Of that I am certain. He's like Brian Jones from the Rolling Stones: WTF?

Any song suggestions would be appreciated.

If someone didn't like Prince, would you give htem "song suggestions"? I like most of what is on Jesse's first three albums...just some good songs...it's that simple.

i phrased it like that because with Prince the whole stew is hard to figure out sometimes.

Actually...

We do generally re-play our shows on E-Radio.

However...this one will not re-run. This situation is EXTREMELY rare, but it was definately a one shot deal. It was a great episode for those who were lucky to catch it.

However, there may be a possibility of something BETTER coming soon...so stay tuned... cool

yeah my sentiment exactly although it sounds like the DJ is hinting that Jesse won't allow this one to be re-run...damn now I really wish I would have listened to it. Did anyone record it..maybe it will turn up somewhere.

As a music lover, JJ's latest cd V.P. is giving me what I need! The guitar playing of course is fantastic, i mean it is JJ.

You hear a lot of influences, a lot! The fun/funky backing vocals are what you expect and some would swear Prince is in the back doing his thing... lol, who knows... who cares... the CD is more than worthy of purchase.

A lot of his lead vocals are Curtis Mayfield/George Clinton-esqe, I would break down song-by-song but as I said, it's well worth the purchase, there are a lot of fantastic things happening with this production, musically and lyrically.

Ok, I just bought this and it sounds amazing!!!

I have all the JJ cds and he sounds alike like Van Hunt on this one with the higher voice. Alittle Princey too but the music and his guitar work is fantastic. I am on the 2nd disc now and I really enjoy it so far.

Go out and buy this!

When i first heard a couple of snippets a few weeks ago that's
who i thought of immediately but lyrically and JJ even credits
him on the album Curtis Mayfield.

Will be posted on I-Tunes any day now. The demand is overwhelming, which caused a delay in posting for digital download.

Yea figures, They delay uploading Jesse's new CD, But oh buddy they can sure upload others with no problems. only thing is those uploads are pure crap. Bunch of whiny no talents. Sorry, i just feel music has gone down the drain in recent years. Music isnt what it used to be. And delaying a great talent Like Jesse Johnson just dont see right somehow.
