BEFORE THEY WERE PROTEGES

Hey guys, here's a fun little game to test your knowledge about Prince proteges past and present. Let's post a vid or comment about what a Prince protege did or where they appeared prior to being touched with the purple wand of fame.

I will start with an easy one.

Before she was Sheila E, she was Sheila Escovedo, an Oakland based Jazz Percusionist who performed with her father's band Azteca.

1. She worked with Lionel Ritchie and appeared in what video>>>>?????

Here's a hint:

1. The video was choreagraphed by the same guy who choreagraphed MJ's Beat It.

Let's have fun!!! dancing jig

Just saw that video recently... Running in the night and the choregrapher is Michael Peters. Here is his picture with MJ Peters is wearing the white Jacket and sunglasses.

Here is the video watch for Sheila E.

Why did I recognize the choreographer of Beat It and the other guy who also danced in that song and also played on New York Undercover and then also Lynn Winfield(who played Josephine Baker amungs other movies)?

And why does Lionel look like a young Steve Harvey with a jerry curl? lol wink

that guy who was in the other MJ video and who played on New York Undercover is first and foremost a very talented dancer. I don't know how he got into acting and he is good at it... but he is much much better at dancing. Peters who is a very sought after always used this dancer. I think his name is Michael as well.

BTW... is Peters still alive? Haven't heard about him lately.

Edit: Then dancer's name is Michael DeLorenzo and I always thought he was fine.

Oh and I forgot, he was in the movie a Few Good Men with Jack Nicholson, Tom Cruise, Kevin Bacon and Demi Moore.

JellyBean

Let me try this:

Before she joined the Purple Wonder, she was a backup singer for her female cousin.

Hint: Her female cousin(probably the coolest and funkest white chick ever) had connection to a bitter funk singer, who claimed to be "Hard to Get".

I don't know who it is.. but has to do with Ray Parker Jr. he wrote the song about the other woman, and he recorded Ghostbusters. Apples... would that be Apollonia? I don't get the references to Ray Parker Jr. though.

Sheila E played with a LOT of people, including George Duke (and is in his videos). She played on Lionel's tour (my aunt saw the tour and she was still drumming for Lionel. Pointer Sisters opened.) Diana Ross, Herbie Hancock, and Marvin Gaye are others she played for. Her musical experience goes well before any Azteca connection. In fact, on Tavis, she talked about how she was happy playing, and Prince had been keeping tabs on her for years, before he pulled her into the spotlight. She said she never wanted to sing or lead a band, she just wanted to play.

"that guy" is the ever famous, and late, Michael Peters. He was also known for making Pat Benetar dance in "Love Is A Battlefield". He also choreographed, and appeared in "Beat It", as well as created moves w/ MJ for "Thriller". He also worked on Dreamgirls, and I believe he won a Tony (along with the fabulous Michael Bennett) for choreography for that show. He was huge in the Broadway world, and had a great reputation from what I've read, often being noted as one of the greatest, if not the greatest, choreographer to ever live.

I was sad when he died. He was only 46, and had HIV/AIDS.

Michael Delorenzo was in the Fame movie, the Fame TV series, NY Undercover, and DOZENS if not HUNDREDS of other shows and videos. He's in "Dancing On The Ceiling" too. He's like the dancing Hector Elizondo.
