i dont know...
I still find it to be among the worst, if not the worst Prince CD ever. I think the blogger was being kind, to call it pedestrian is definitely an insult to walking. [Edited 9/16/09 20:28pm] | |

[Edited 9/16/09 20:28pm] I get the feeling that there's probably a thread around here some place that would read like... if u could make 1 CD from the best of LOTUS and MPLSound... as 2 albums, they have a lot of filler, as 1, they would've been great - IMHO. | |

I (personally) don't get it (it = bad MPLSound reviews). MPLSound is the closest thing to 'early Prince' I've enjoyed. Honestly. Truly. Not saying it's the real deal... just the closest.
That said... Prince, please get back to work!!! | |

That said... Prince, please get back to work!!! and THAT is the problem.It's a shadow of himself. IMO if you want to sort of go back you can do it in a way that makes it similar but different in a good way. Copying yourself is just lame. It's why I' rather have an album (or hell- an EP) of really stellar material than so much mediocre stuff. His sound has become lame because he doesn't really take chances anymore or really "get" what can be done sonically these days. Even his attempts to do unusual falls back into the same tired riffs and runs. He needs badly to work with musicians (not girlfriends) to inspire him and make him go..."whoa...that was cool". Back in the day he had people he looked up to, now he's that guy and not the guy learning and working out new sounds. He basically has gotten stuck in an odd musical space. Not retro enough to have a cool raw quality that many would enjoy, and not future thinking enough to feel that he is making headway. He has also gotten tremendously lazy as a songwriter imo.He also is surrounded by "yes" people who don't ant to lose their jobs. Bottom line...he can do what he wants - it's his life, but as a fan I'm starting to wonder if he'll ever really come back to what made him exciting and worthy of listening too... from my perspective. |
