actually, no i don't remember when i first saw her.

maybe MTV? maybe friday night videos?

the first time i saw her LIVE was in 1985, opening for the purple rain tour. i remember that VERY well.

but the first time i ever heard of her? i'm sure it was in 84 sometime, but i couldn't tell ya exactly when.

I'm a big fan and I had no clue about this video.

I do remember first seeing her, because I used to love the hell out of that Lionel song. And I loved the video too. I didn't realize that was her in the video, though, until someone pointed it out here on the org a few years ago.

My first memory of Sheila as Sheila E. was when my sister brought home "The Glamorous Life" and I was like, "Why did you buy that? She's just another one of Prince's bimbos."

Sigh.

That bimbo done stole my heart a few days later, and, well, here we are.

I remember seeing 'The Glamorous Life' on Dutch television, some time in 1984 when I was 13. I immediately fell in love with her. That song, the video and Sheila behind her timbales, it was amazing. She got me into Prince in the first place. I love her energy, she is just so charismatic.

But anyway....the first time I saw Sheila was "The Glamorous Life" video in spring 1984.I had no idea who she was.I didn't know she had a connection to Prince.I was impressed by this sexy woman who is playing percussion in a video...I thought,'what a brilliant concept'.I liked the song too.

A few or so later,I went to the record store and found her album.I looked on the back and it said "Produced by Sheila E. and the Starr Company".That's when I knew that Prince was involved,lol.I was well aware who Jamie Starr was.

Yeah,the "Running With The Night" video came out in late '83.It was the second single from Lionel's 'Can't Slow Down' album.

I actually remember this being my 1st time seeing Sheila.

My sentiments exactly! The video for TGL was video of the month on a Dutch TV show called Club Veronica Clips in May of 1984 and I was just in awe. I had never seen a woman play timbales, let alone, leading a band, singing and playing percussion... And that's how The Glamorous Life became my favorite record of all time!

Anyhoo, she's dang cool. I can't remember if I heard the song Glamourous Life first, or if I saw the video first. I just know I was instantly hooked because she reeked of bad-assed-ness. I didn't know she was connected to Prince until a little later after she blew up on the charts with that single

The first time I realized or paid any attention to Ms. E. was in the Glamorous Life video the same summer that I really got into Prince. I Remember thinking wow she reminds of him (just her look alone, hair swept back on 1 side) & word had it that he had a girlfriend already (Vanity). Right On! & Word Up magazines cleared alot of that up & reported that Sheila was another 1 of his girls. Then the look made since. I always wondered why didn't he just replace Vanity with Sheila instead Apollonia.
