The music of Purple Rain in Ska, Reggae & Dub

Neither of the three aforementioned genres are typically my cup of tea, no disrespect intended. However, I'm open-minded. Therefore, immediately at the pulse of seeing The Denver Dub Collective album, Purple Dub via http://www.amazon.com/gp/...67&sr=8-16, I knew I was going to buy it. I don't normally just spend $9 on an artist I've never heard of and that's for the mp3's. The CD-R is available for $15 + Shipping & Taxes. Yes, I said CD-R. This product is manufactured on demand using CD-R recordable media. Well, so far I've listened to all but the final four tracks and am extremely pleased. I truly recommend this to all of the PRN-aficionados. In addition, please leave your comments as well... I'd like to see if I'm on cue here.
footnote: The album is also available at http://amiestreet.com/mus...purple-dub for $1.80, which can be paid for through PayPal among other options.

This is going to get yanked post-haste. DJ Nikki is the issue here. Changing the lyrics to a cover song is a no-no, unless you get permission from the original artist. This is why Weird Al can never do Prince parody songs.

If you like this album, get it now while it's available.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Maybe Prince gave him permission. Seems this is the closest were gonna get to any 25th anniversary music to Purple Rain. Seems like a good F_u to WB.

Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

imho, i think legally weird al could do the songs with no problems. he just prefers to have the support of the originators. my opinion is based on the fact that rap group 2 live crew were being challenged for their song "bald-headed woman" which was built around roy orbison's "pretty woman." the verdict was that 2 live crew was within legal perimeters of a parody, hitting that parodies are legal. to the contrary prince is very protective over his babies cf. sinead o'connor's "nothing compares 2 u" * foo fighters' "darling nikki" * et al

I was under the impression that parodies didn't require the artists consent but that Weird Al won't do them without it for personal reasons.
