Definitely
I have all the Time albums and the first three Sheila E albums, Vanity 6 and Apollonia 6 and the Morris Day solo albums Colour of Success and Daydreaming (Fishnet is outstanding). I really want Jill Jones (All I hear is how good it is) the Madhouse albums and 1-800 New Funk
The rest I could not really give a tinkers fart about.
Other albums with Prince contribution that are worth having

Like a Prayer - Madonna (Although Love Song is the weakest track)
Martikas Kitchen - Martika (If for Love thy will be done alone)
I do not want what I haven't got - Sinead O'Connor
So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time

I'll repeat my worn out mantra: IMO, the related artists and produced albums are JUST as important to the Prince canon as those records released under his own name(s).

The fill in the gaps and show the progression from one record to the next. If you're missing stuff like The Time, Family, Jill, Sheila, Vanity 6 Madhouse etc, etc you are missing a BIG piece of the puzzle.

Then after you get all those produced records, the next tier down is waiting - solo stuff, MPLS Sound with out Prince's involvement - Jesse Johnson, Morris Day, Jam/Lewis, it goes on. cool

Mavis Staples - Time Waits For No One
The Ingrid Chavez Album
The Family
Jill Jones
and Bria's Elixer- nice feeling to that one and he is all over it like he hasn't been with someone else in a very very long time

these are probably my favourite projects he has been involved with

Chaka started recording/performing with the group Rufus in the early 70's. Way before Prince's debut-album. Mavis Staples & Sheila E. too. They're all technically no proteges who started their careers with a Prince-production.
I think that Elisa Fiorillo already released recordings before she hooked up with Prince.

Im thinking about buying sum protege cds. ive heard sum MP3's and the only protege's i liked were THE TIME and Apollonia6. I couldnt get into Jessie johnson and Jill Jones.

U've got 2 keep in mind that there's a difference between albums that were fully Prince in disguise and therefore Prince albums, albums that were only partly Prince produced, and albums that were just from protégés, ex-musicians, or Minneapolis-sounding artists with no Prince involvement.

By the way, 2 answer 2 someone else who posted in this thread, it IS known who played on the Madhouse albums. "8" was only Prince and Eric Leeds. "16" was more collaborative, with some tracks being just Prince and Eric again, and some tracks featuring Sheila E., Levi Seacer Jr. and (if i'm not wrong) Matt Fink.
