The Last Dragon with Vanity and Taimak I just watched it again on Encore and it was corny back in the 80's and it still is, but I think it's a cute movie I mean Vanity was good and Taimak was just too damn fine! Of course, who could forget Shonuff and his Converse Any Last Dragon fans?

Anybody see Taimak on that TVOne special? I can't remember what it was called but it was along the lines of Unsung and it was kind of a "where are they now" type show. Anyway, in the preview they are talking about Taimak and they cut to him saying something about how his career blew up with Last Dragon but then suddenly fizzled and he was crying! Shiit I am disappointed I wasn't able to catch that. He still looks good though.
I dug the movie only because of the dude playing Sho Nuff. I loved how he was repping the Japanese Tai kwan Do and sporting the flag of Japan on his headband while Taimak was about the Chinese Kung Fu and Bruce Lee outfit. Very cute and clever. Other than that the movie kinda blows for me now.

I've never really understood why Taimak didn't star in any more feature films. He had the good looks (face and body) to become a big time action movie star during the late 80s and 90s, like Brandon Lee (had he lived) or Jean-Claude Van Damme for example. Unless it was because his martial arts skills were not advanced enough for any scripts to be supported by anyone in the US, I don't get why he doesn't have about 30 movies on his resume now. I mean if Steven Seagal of all people could make it, why not Taimak? lol. "You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup...Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend." - Bruce Lee

Taimak and I dated a few years ago, we grew really close and I came to know him very well. I can say this and he'll admit it himself, he doesnt have a grounded concept of what it takes to make it in the industry. He is a very sweet person who at times and at the wrong times has a very big ego which has caused him to get fired from projects that could have taken him to the next level. He thinks he's as big as Prince. All is well with him until it comes to business and his ego gets in the way. This can have a negative effect in business relationships- with an agents, casting directors, movie producers, etc, etc. among other issues thats the big one I feel stopped him from being as big as Steven Seagal from your example. Hollywood is a b!tch, he's been back in NYC where he belongs. [Edited 8/17/09 14:14pm]

I mean the martial arts thing was a plus but as we all have seen, it only can take you so far. Stephen Segal became a bore after his third film. Why did so many of Segals' films have three words? Why did he only have 3 martial arts moves? Block, Kick and Throw down. i digress. carry on.

I AGREE but you cant get far in the industry if you get yourself fired from 90% of the projects you work on! lol (among other issues) I'm not familiar with Stephan Segal's work though...

[Edited 8/17/09 14:14pm] Maybe his ego was too big but as far as I know, his martial art skills and his discipline were much bigger than, say, Steven Seagal´s or Jean Claude Van Damme´s. And he had the look, too. There was an interview posted here on the org about a year ago. He still seems to be seriously into martial arts and he doesn´t believe in overtraining. Julius J. Curry is no martial artists and none of these styles were evident in the Sho'Nuff character. Which is what makes it fun. Sho'Nuff is too bad ass and too cool to conform to any style. I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!
