Who is playing the bass on Jill Jones - Violet Blue?

That is some funky funky funky bass playing. Is it Prince? Brownmark? or someone else?
We all want the stuff that's found in our wildest dreams.

Basses were credited to David Stone & Robert Stone.
When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

and yet both Robert Stone and David Stone are bassists still working in the industry. So - it probably actually was them.

longevity in the industry doesn't have so much to do with the sound and timing normally associated with Prince's bass playing. Given the production on the rest of that album, I'm more inclined to believe that's P on the bass. Maybe one of those two session artists was told, "Play like Prince." but I doubt it.

Jill Jones had a lot of unknown musician working on her CD. The Revolution did "All Day, All Night" but a lot of the othere tracks were done with session players. I'm sure that the Prince vibe everyone is picking up on is because he worked very closely with her on the music and he defintiely influenced her style.

I agree with you, but that's still different from influencing the bass player's style on that track.

I believe it's Prince as well. He could have replayed their basslines and left their names on it. It really sounds too much like him not to be him or Brownmark.
Who ever said Prince has lost it - has lost it. The Kid's still got game!

I'd put money on Prince!!!!! to me, "Violet Blue" is one of his FON-KAY-EST bass lines EVER!!!!!

1)777-9311 (The Time)
2)Some Kind Of Lover (Apollonia 6)
3)Violet Blue (Jill Jones)

...I'll have 2 add to this list in the near future!!!!!
cool cool cool
