Was Andre Cymone's "AC" Tour ever realised ? I remember going to a club way back, where a waitress was deep into P's music and who also informed me about a slick "Dance Electric" video which she saw. First time i ever saw it was a brief detail from the clip shown in a music special.
A few years after that a buddy had found a promo-copy, so now i finally could finish watching the images which were stuck in my mind for some years. I dig the baroque vibe in the clip and thought AC's blackfeathered outfit with the sunglasses was a cool direction imagewise. Magazines such as Black Beat, Right On + Rock & Soul reviewed his work frequently, referring to copies which i've read. There was also a Billboard ad which announced a national tour. Though i've seen footage from his earlier "Survivin' In The 80's" Tour, reviews or footage from the "AC" Tour are hard to find, hence if there exists any or if there was a tour at all lol.

'A/C' is a superb album.Unfortunately,it didn't get the attention it deserved.Songs like "Pretty Wild Girl","Book Of Love" and "Neon Pussycat" should have been heard by a wide audience. For some reason, radio was reluctant to support this project. They only supported the first single "Dance Electric" because of the Prince involvement.

It stands to show that most of - if not all - Prince associates needed some Prince input to get some initial impact. All the members of the Time with solo careers, Vanity, Appolonia, Sheila E, Andre Cymone, the entire Purple Rain version of the Revolution (yes, incuding the great Wendy and Lisa) would not be where they are without Prince. The one hit Prince did with Dez, Modernaire, was not even released to help Dez as much as it should ahve back in the post Purple Rain era. He also had the whole blach rock thing working against him.

I've collected some more media-publishings from this album-release, but the focus was indeed mostly based on "Dance Electric". Man lol, i should've posted my topic-stuff in your thread

They played lots of stuff from the "AC" album in my area. They started out with "The Dance Electric", then they started playing "The Book Of Love", then they played the album version of "Lipstick Lover" until the 12 Inch came out and then they played the hell out of it. I have the 45 of "Lipstick Lover" (which they also played) which is an edited version of the 12 Inch (which I should have bought instead). They played "Pretty Wild Girl" and also "Satisfaction". And if I'm not mistaken, I think I remember hearing them play a 12 Inch version of "Satisfaction" also. Andy is a four letter word.

Good question...If he DID tour off of this album, I didn't know about it. Cuz if I had, I certainly would have went. I don't see him, IF he had toured off of this album, skipping a city like L.A. The only thing that I remember was that Dre and his band went on American Bandstand to promote the A.C. album. He was cool too, talking to Dick Clark. He was very courteous and professional. He learned from P what NOT to do in an interview! ESPECIALLY on American Bandstand. [Edited 6/23/09 2:09am] SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. I was waiting for your reply having seeing you previously mentioning your connection with Andre. If you ever might speak to him, could you ask if he toured for "AC" ? Thanks again for your help ! vainandy said: He also performed "Lipstick Lover" on "Solid Gold" later that year. Dang lol i gotta find both those episodes like ... NOW ! Back then i only saw that brief moment from the entire clip on MTV lol.

It's a real shame that this album didn't get any real recognition. It is a great set of jams. Easy to understand why Andre got into producing. Along with Survivin' in the 80's and Livin' in the New Wave, these are three great albums worth a listen if you ever get the chance. I've got all of them on vinyl... Yep, so do I. And I agree witcha. My vibe from Dre was that although he dug performing, I do think after a time, he truly DIGS producing. I think Dre has always been at peace with NOT needing to compete with Prince on the grand scale. NOT because it's a battle that he knows he won't win...But because I don't think he personally "needed" that. Sure, he feels for good reason that he got dogged out by Prince. But I think one element that often gets overlooked by people is that Andre and Prince have always been close. Like brothers. I would go so far to say that Andre is actually happy for Prince when good things goes down for him. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

If he were to get back in the studio again and lay down some tracks they'd be killers for sure. I wish he would but it seems like he's in a good place right now.
