Who would you say is prince's best back up dancer in his whole career & why?
For me i like CAT...raw, energetic, never boring...and at times she steals the spotlight from Prince...

Prolly Cat. I don't know what those other chicks were doing.

Cat was probably the most energetic and frenetic. Mayte was the most sensual, easily.

The Twinz are good at what they do, but are they stunning or have a huge wow factor? Nah, not to me. After a while, they were just annoying. They became like those two dancers you see with some B-list or C-list R&B act on BET or something, where the "artist" is paying NO attention to the dancers at all, and the dancers look like they're doing their own thing, solely independent of the artist they're hired to back. Very disjointed after a while.

Never really saw any footage with D&P so don't know.

Don't forget Geneva, who was just.....ICK. Never dug her at all.

So best? Well, depends on the category, but it'd be a draw between Mayte and Cat, depending on the TYPE of dancer.

they are all great for different reasons.

I couldn't stand the Twitch Twinz! All they did was repeatedly obstruct my view of Prince with all that damn twitching and hair twirling!

I liked Diamond and Pearl! One...their names were two of my favorite things. Two...they didn't obstruct my view of Prince. Three...they added to the act.

I adored Mayte's dance style. Her beauty and grace fit what Prince was putting down at the time like a glove.

Cat was the BEST!! Her dancing was fierce and uninhibited...raw and powerful. She could keep up with Prince's high energy moves and pulled them off flawlessly! I that Lovesexy footage where they do that killer hopping spin and at the end they bow to each other and Prince gives her some play because the girl was getting it!!

Cat, then Mayte a close second, though their styles were so different it's like comparing apples and oranges.

The other dancers over the years: not much impression left on me about them, sorry.

I say Cat, because she defitnitely looked like she was feeling the music.

CAT - hands down, in my opinion, CAT was THE BEST - her energy, her body - she was the BEST DANCER. i still miss her.

Mayte - beautiful, skilled - different type of dancer from CAT.

the TWINZ - personally, i love 'em. blocking view of Prince? - well he set all that up i would think, so .... i think they are talented and i was sorry to see them leave. but new talent of course is Prince's thing - so that's cool.

CAT! I think she´s one of the best dancers I´ve ever seen. I still miss her too. I have never figured out, why he let her go so quickly. She had her own style, that I still adores her for, and she influenced so much of the way I learned to dance.

She could dance a wild, raw and untamed way that I have never seen before or after and she could keep up with prince - which I´m sure you will agree is quite something - without stealing the stage.

Wow, do you remember her in Bob George in the Love Sexy tour - fantastic? Or in Glam Slam in her orange minidress and Prince in his polka dots? Or in Sign o´the times battle all the guys ending up with the big guy? Or...okay I´ll stop now, but omg I loved her!

As far as Ms. Glover goes, she was trying to generate some buzz in 07 or 08 about a comeback of sorts. She had new pics up on her Myspace, as well as the photographer's site. She looks the same, but obviously aged a bit, as we all have. As far as her leaving: Prince rotates everyone. Geneva didn't stick around long either. I think The Twinz will be on their way out too. Mayte danced for him from what....1992- early 1996? So not quite 4 years? She stopped after they got married. I don't think he needs dancers, especially now. I mean, Jerome and them guys on Hit N Run and SOTT were fun, but with Lovesexy is was a better show because it was more about the music, and not antics. Then you have some fools like The Game Boyz which totally F'd everything up.

I have never seen enough concerts to make an educated decision.

I like Mayte probably the best because I liked her belly dancing and she did wear some cute outfits. But I also really liked Diamond's hair. I'm forever teasing mine, trying to get the big poof she had in the "Cream" video.

Cat Glover was definitely the best of the lot.
She moved with more energy and abandon thanany of the others.
She truly was a part of the show and the Sign O' the Times movie and the Lovesexy tour wouldn't have been the showstopper they were without her.

Mayte and Cat were the only two that seemed legit somehow.

Just watched the 'Rave' DVD, as much of it as I could, anyway. The dancers on there were terrible.
Worse than the twinz even.

Mayte and Cat get my vote.
They both had a chemistry with him, different chemistry for each of them, but chemistry just the same.

I wonder did the Kiss dancer or the piano bar dancer from Girls & Boys spark the idea of a dancer in his band that led to Cat

I say Cat because Prince met her at his most prolific time which was some time in 86 at a dinner party at his house

I say Cat because not only was she a fan of Prince but as a dance Prince's music was the vision that inspired her dancing

Mayte on the other hand may have had a sensual belly dancing, she couldn't work the stage like Cat. But not only that... to be the best Prince band dancer Mayte wasn't even a fan of Prince's work. That disqualifies her in my opinion. Her mother was the fan.

Cat was Prince's alter ego she dipped slipped slid split twirled and banged just as hard as Prince, and watching her move she moved to the rhythms and melodies of the music. She brought magic to the stage and her look and style made her a band member not a pretty face.

I actually thought she left the band because of some of the changes that were taking place (Sheila having had the back surgery) and the Graffiti Bridge concept seemed to be a coming embarrassment.

Diamonds & Pearls were more or less models than dancers
The Twinz I like their looks, and they definately outshown the singers in the line up who just in my opinion don't fit Prince music. But there moves were to showgirlish

so CAT hands down, you can tell Prince had a respect for her

One of my favorite performances of hers is Sign of the Times when she is mimicking Prince's moves and words up on the stage behind the drum set

I think that CAT exuded a lot of energy and charisma, and her style of dancing was well suited for Prince's upbeat tracks. She also brought out the really fun, sexy, and silly side of Prince on stage. I actually think she made him work harder at dancing. Most of Prince's dancers have just been back drop props and were not meant to stand along side him but rather behind him.


Mayte being his wifey and all, was meant to showcase the romantic side of Prince. Unlike Cat's style of dancing which was very well integrated with the music, Mayte's style was integrated with the lyrics. Her dancing was more like story telling IMO.

All them other hos can go work for Rihanna.
