Have there ever been more unecessary band members?

The pretty DJ chick and the harmonica geek are so annoying and not needed. No real band playing real music needs a DJ. And and just realized why I didnt enjoyed that first Leno performance as much as I should have - that harp buster. I havent seen more questionable additions to the floor show since the Game Boyz in the 90s. At least their dance routines began to grow on me. lol

remember the Twinz?

one of the advantages of not sticking with a band for a long time is that he can bring whoever he wants on stage

sometimes it may not be what we want, but whatever makes him happy

Rashida happens to be a great dj and the Yonnet is an excellent harmonica player

without disrespect...

Performance-wise, I did/do find minimal value in Susannah Melvoin. I mean, I know she was special to Prince...

other than that.. not a key band member of the time.

Nothing happened when Susannah Melvoin was around... except some of Prince's finest love songs. If I Was Your Girlfriend... to name but the finest,

Here's a thing... at the risk of contradicting my Susannah comment... MAYTE - all she did was drain the main vein.... and, once drained... it becomes impotent. Susannah was all about the 'unrequited' AND the complexity of having W&L in the band too.

i'll agree about having a dj in a live band makes no sense

but having a harmonica player is cool
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Once again you display your closeminded attitudes towards music.

But to answer you question, I would argue that Greg and Wally were more superfluous than either Rashida or Freddrick. That said, I wouldn't mind if both were dropped and Renato was brought back on a permanent basis.

You ain't joking. He is good. I think the harmonica player behaved better the second night. The first night, he was too obnoxious and all over.

Remember Susannah wasn't an official Revolution member
Prince pulled her in as a vocalist (she has a trained voice) like Jill Jones
when the Family disbanded.
Song writing is very high on her skill level as well, and Prince collaboration with her resulted in Ballad of Dorothy Parker, Starfish & Coffee, Rock Hard In a Funky Place and a lot others

Prince was going 4 a big band effect for Parade(tour)

Jerome along with Wally & Gregory were pulled for the extra dancing Prince wanted
(Prince didn't play much guitar on that tour)

If you remember or know: the Family broke up and Prince pulled in Eric Leeds, Jerome Benton Mico Weaver & Susannah Melvoin(all Family musicians/singers)

Jerome was only going to be a 1 time thing

I dont believe any musician is irrelevant. Nowadays anyone who dedicates themselves to learning to play an instrument and then actually joining a band, and not just any band, but with Prince is truly awesome and amazing and good for them!

In a way they all are. Prince writes all his own music does all the instruments and things, the bands are there to play it. Sure there are musical ideas, but the band is Prince. People want to see a band not Prince fiddling around with a mixing board lol on stage.
