Spin Magazines "Purplish Rain" opinions please... I really took a good listen to this today and it was pretty good to hear the interpretations by other artists of this classic album. I think "Take Me With U" by Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings was one of my favorites. Also Chairlift's version of "Darling Nikki" was suitably sleazy/sexy. The two tracks I could've done without were Lavender Diamond's "Purple Rain" and the Riverboat Gamblers version of "Let's Go Crazy". Neither of which did the songs any justice and in the case of "Purple Rain" the rendition was anti-climatic and they chopped the ending down. All in all this would be a nice addition to any fans collection, especially since it's free! When ![]() ![]() ![]()

I think "I Would Die 4 U" by Mariachi El Bronx is the standout, it sounds refreshing, and sounds like they actually put some effort into the arrangement and production unlike they rest.
my second favorite would be "The Beautiful Ones" by Fol Chen, not so much for anything other than i love that song. The rest..ehh, I have seen American Idol contestants do better. [Edited 7/18/09 20:31pm]
