Prince. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Sheila E was the best. Michael B 2nd. I loved the Revoulution, but it seemed like Bobby Z was just banging on cymbals and not really playing the beat, although that was probably not by choice. TRUE BLUE

Michael Bland is arguably the best drummer Prince has ever had, but I've never liked the way Prince utilized him. His sound was always too over-the-top for me. I don't know if it was the way his kit was mic'd, the way Prince had him play, or the way the records were mixed. I've watched Michael B play a marathon Jimi Hendrix tribute and have other non-Prince albums that he played on, and the guy's a phenomenon. I prefer Prince's own "less-is-more" funky back-beat. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

As a fellow drummer I would have to say John Blackwell - hands down.
Followed closely by Michael B. As for the cutest - Shiela E - not bad for a girl. Swa "I'm not human I'm a dove, I'm ur conscience. I am love"

Michael B., and Sheila in a close 2nd.
Bobby was a good pop drummer. Sheila was tight, and Michael B drums so hard, ya dead granny can feel it. Didn't care for Blackwell. I like Cora though. Her energy and enthusiasm is fun.

Depends on what you're looking for.
Sheila had a great all around sound. Loved her fills. Bland's got a great heavy sound. Perfect for the rock vibe and like a machine on tempo. Kirk (yeah I know - hate away) kept a great tempo and held it down well. I saw him play with Chaka, then Larry, then Prince in one night. I'm sorry, but he did a great job. Blackwell- nice showing of technique, didn't hold the bottom down particularly well. Kinda sloppy, but sure knows a lot.

I've watched Michael B play a marathon Jimi Hendrix tribute and have other non-Prince albums that he played on, and the guy's a phenomenon. I prefer Prince's own "less-is-more" funky back-beat. I guess it's a taste thing. That's exactly what I liked about Michael B's time with P in the early-mid 90's. Clean, tightly miked & crisp. If I was picking my favourite snare sounds of all time, Michael B's would be right up there. It's highly tuned, but still has balls. Conversly, that's the reason I occasionally get frustrated with P's drumming. Big wet snares with slightly open hats, just doesn't do it for me. Just doesn't 'Cut' enough. Granted, it doesn't always sound like that, but when it does, it leaves me a little cold. Oh, and as far as the poll goes: Michael B (...if it wasn't already obvious )
