Alan Leeds was Right!!

Alan Leeds was so right during the time Prince was announcing he would retire that:
"There's only three things for sure in life. We're all born, we all die and Prince will make another record one of these days".

So far, its been so true.
Thank God for that! smile

Alan Leeds has been right about a lot of things over the years. However, I disagree with him that Lovesexy is an overproduced disappointment. I think it's one of Prince's best works.

I think he was right on that one too. That's the album Prince went from the do no wrong artist he was for most of the 80's to the hit or miss artist he still is to this day

I agree it was the end of the experimental Prince. But the album itself is amazing. Leeds talks about it like it's crap.

That has nothing to do with music on Lovesexy, but with how he chose to put it out.
Change it one more time..

Yeah. Even in hindsight Leeds has been pretty vocal with his disappointment concerning Lovesexy as a final product. I don't get it. I think Prince got it right, despite it's lackluster success.

I recently re-read Leeds' org interview. It was refreshing that he was so open and forthcoming.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I think 'Lovesexy' has a few overproduced songs ("Eye No",the title track) but that's part of its charm.I look at it as this big, powerful,LOUD statement that Prince was trying to make.Fittingly, the music throughout has many layers.I love the album but I can see how other people would describe it as overproduced.

I wholeheartedly agree. This was a turning point.
To me the album is ok, but something has always rubbed me the wrong way about it and i think the production is a big part of that.

It's not dumbed down like most of his 90's work, but the production at least was a step in that direction.

Having said that, I think the Alphabet St. production is brilliant.

“Anastasia” and “Positivety” while great songs, I think the production is cold, overdone and detached.
I would like to someday listen to the original demos of those two.

Without listening 2 the demos or the tracks in the early production stages how are any of us qualified 2 disagree with Alan Leeds. His statements make me long 2 hear the rawer versions. This is the stuff he should be putting on Lotusflow3r IMO.

I don't necessarily agree with him about Lovesexy, just the original statement about Prince realeasing music!

We're qualified because we have ears. Maybe the demos were better but my point is that I like the album the way it is.

Hudson Hawk and Showgirls are movies among my guilty pleasures.

Movies so bad they're good.
