Dez is synonymous with Prince for the "Bambi" composition
His place in history is cemented in rock history 4ever!

"Prince took the stage and the first song he and his band played was the song "Bambi" from his second album. Which was an excellent choice. It's a straight out rock number with a heavy nod to Hendrix. Live, it was even heavier. Perfect song to open up with in this setting. Interesting note; on the album version, Prince sung "Bambi" in his falsetto voice. Here at this show, he sung it in his much lower, more natural voice. Prince ended the song with just him on lead guitar, playing a very Hendrix influenced solo. After the first song, you can definately hear some applause. You then hear Prince telling the crowd "Put your hands together...right here. Come on!" You then hear Prince shout "Rock and Roll California!" You then hear Dez telling the audience to "Get ready fot the Stones!" The next song was "When U Were Mine" from Prince's "Dirty Mind" album. Good performance by the band and great vocals by Prince and Dez. Again, Prince sung this live in his natural voice and not in falsetto as he did on the album. You can clearly hear the band was well rehearsed and Prince was very confident sounding. " headbang

The "Without Dez...Prince unlikely" is pretty funny. If Dez was so great why didn't he ever have a hit and why is he going around still singing Prince songs?

Uh hello...

" He contributed songs for Prince's side projects, writing "He's So Dull" for Vanity 6, and co-writing "Wild And Loose" for The Time. Dickerson contributed vocals to "Little Red Corvette" and "1999" on the 1999 album, as well as the guitar solo for "Little Red Corvette" that ranked #64 on Guitar World's list of the 100 Greatest Guitar Solos.[2]

However, following the 1999 tour, Dickerson left the band to pursue other options.

Just because you haven't seen him on the cover of Rolling Stone doesn't mean wasn't doing great things. He moved to Nashville and had a very successful career as a producer and his own Absolute records. Prince learned a lot from Dez. He brought real rock-n-roll experience and an edge to the band. He also co-wrote Cool. So Dez gets high marks for his contribution to Prince's legacy in my book.
He actually wrote some amazing pop rock songs in the eighties after leaving Prince. He had some song demos floating around at a few labels and supposedly some similar sounding songs ended up on radio by a popular rock artist at the time.

Very cool...Between Mazarati and Dez, it sounds like it's going to be a very cool show. I remember in 84, I went to buy a ticket to see Billy Idol on his Rebel Yell tour. At the time of me getting the ticket, I had NO idea that Dez was on the bill. It wasn't untill I actually had the ticket that I saw on it "Special Guest...Dez Dickerson and the Modernaires". I was just going to see Billy simply cuz I dug Billy. When I saw that Dez was opening up, I was floored. Happy as a muthafucka actually. I remember wondering though, how was Dez going to be received by Idol's fans. I mean, me personally, I always saw a similarity to a degree in early 80's P and and early 80's Idol. But that was me. And that was Prince that was vaguely similar to Idol, NOT Dez. And since Dez DIDN'T have an album that was released at that time, I was curious as hell to what Dez was going to play as well. Dez played the only song I knew from him as a solo artist at the time, which was the track "Modernaire". A song co-written by Prince. His set was cool though. Idol's fans dug him well enough and they DEFINATELY recognized him. He was cool, very well poised. He had a good demeanor with the crowd.

Since were mentioning shit, Dez also wrote the lyrics to The Time's song "Cool" and played drums on one of my all time fave songs by P that he wrote for his side acts, Vanity 6's "3x2=6". He's also doing backing vocals on the songs "777-9311" which was his actual phone number at the time. No pun intended. Me personally, I see no harm in Dez playing Bambi or Snow White or Cinderella for that matter. I would imagine that some of the people there would WANT Dez to play something from his period with Prince. I mean, to me, that's NOT really an out of the question request. I think the people there would dig it, actually. Dez knows that's what he's most known for. And like everybody else on the bill, it's their association with P that their even there in the first place. I see it as a gesture to the fans there and him simply acknowledging Prince.

Prince: Hey Dez, don't u like my band?
Dez: Yeah Kid, your band is really cool. Why you ask?
Prince: Just wonderin'. Hey Dez, should I pose like this with my eyes closed and shit?
Dez: Yeah man,...just like that. But dig, you gotta tilt your head slightly back and with your mouth open....Like this. You know...like Hendrix.
Prince: Gotcha.

Mong

There's more chance of Dez sending one of his books to you within one week of receiving payment than there is of him playing "Bambi".

I took your comment as if Dez had never been around, Prince would not have a career??? Is that what your were getting at? If so, get real. If not, please explain.
