he just plain messed up with Tamar. Tamar should have been where Jazmine Sullivan is now.

Was it Prince's fault her next album didn't get picked up either??? and why do you think he packaged bria's album with his own? nobody wanted that shit either. he couldve done the same for tamar. only her album would have been surprisingly endearing for a first timer. and 4bjb aka bria...relax. you are sooo damn obvious, its not even funny anymore. He felt like it... So get over it. What do you get out of pitting her against Tamar? YOU may not have wanted Bria's album, but I and a lot of others did. I liked Tamar and was hoping she'd get picked up too, but her album with Prince just didn't sound all that great IMO... although I still like "Sundays in the Park", "Redhead Stepchild" and "All Eye Want is U". Bria's album is stronger, Here Eye Come, All this Love, Home, Something U already Know, Immersion & Elixr are all range from good to great. I didn't find anything on Tamar's album "great". [Edited 5/19/09 19:04pm] why are you still talking about her album? i touched on it but it was not the main focus of my thread. im talking about her talent. there are many people who have awesome talent but horrible albums and there are many people who have shit talent and great albums with HELP. i think prince could have given tamar more help! no one is pitting bria against tamar. but did you think comparisons would never happen? be real, bria was the follow up protegee to tamar. people were expecting something at tamar's level of talent or more. or atleast i was. so,you get over it. didnt bria herself say she didnt mind comparisons? i think bria should be glad her name is even being spoken in the same thread as tamar's. if we took prince out of the scenario and both of these ladies had major record deals, tamar would get more respect for her vocal talent. and lets not even get on stage presence. but lets direct this back to tamar's talent and prince's capabilities or lack there of with dealing with REAL talent. ...then he turned to me and said "I dare you".

What? I could find your point over all that bitching and whining... Either praise Tamar or bitch about Prince & Bria, but don't mix the two. You just sound jaded and confused. Tamar SHOULD have better stage presence, she's been singing her entire life. If you wanna talk about Tamar's talent solely then I'll be back. Otherwise carry-on with your rants... Change it one more time..

back to the original thread....who knows?
BLAblessed was, imo, the wrong promotional lead song. Great idea to have Tamar front hitnrun type mini concerts. With the album art having been reshot/ the issues around album content, then the no-doubt boredom - threshold setting in for Prince for a project, I think Tamar just was unlucky. Wrong album/ wrong time. She may well have success in the future but, IMO, as so often is the case, success is unpredictable and subject to timing/ right promotion, and an album the masses wanna hear.

I just heard Chrisette Michelle's "Blame It On Me" come on the radio and for a second I thought it was Tamar. It reminds me slightly of one of the ballads off Milk & Honey. It's late and I don't have the album handy so I cannot think of which one. However, Chrisette's voice reminded me of Tamar, so did the organic feel of the music. I remembered meeting this guy who asked me out back in 2006 but I was about to go to Vegas to see Prince. When I told him that he asked me about "the girl singing with Prince" (Tamar). It was interesting because a couple of other people I talked to showed interest in her and they were "casual" Prince fans at best, but they liked what they heard of her. I think Tamar's voice and style are marketable if paired with the right producer. However, there are so many talented people out there who get no industry love. She's really not unique in that regard. She was hooked up with Prince, but that certainly is no springboard to sustained success. I don't know what the problem is besides the usual industry bs, but I do think that Tamar's album would have been nicely received if it had been packaged with 3121. Maybe Prince learned his lesson with the Tamar album so he packed Bria's with his this time to get it out there. [Edited 5/20/09 23:30pm] perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...

Funny. I felt the same way about Rosie Gaines after her departure from the NPG. Although looking back now I don't think it is Prince's fault that she didn't succeed. He gave her the "spotlight" but she didn't deliver. People just weren't into "her" style of music. She could tear the hell out of some Aretha songs though, and she really sounded good with Prince.
Rosie had 3 quite big hitsingles in the UK and in Europe, so some people were into her music. "Closer than close" made it to no. 4 in the UK, and that song as well as "I surrender" were all over the place in 1997. She also did a duet with Gary Barlow, can't remember the title, which was also very succesful. Personally, I wasn't particularly into any of these songs, but I remember thinking how remarkable it was that someone actually did this well, post- Prince. Couldn't think of anyone else that got this much radioplay and such chart positions. (For that matter very few, if any, got it while still at Paisley). Rosie's also had some success on the dance scene. The track she did with K Klass, "Dance with Me" was pretty popular a couple of years ago. I still love it. Also, whether she made it "big" or not, Rosie was one of the most talented people to ever come through the Prince camp. [Edited 5/20/09 23:32pm] perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...
