I was at the first reunion wishing Prince would show up until about halfway through the concert when the band was playing all of Prince's hits Prince won't play. Relaxed atmosphere and a lot of fun. To hear Get Off, Sexy MF, Head, DMSR and Erotic City like they were meant to be played ....I was glad (kind o) that Prince didn't show up.

why even entertain that Prince will be there? Look at all the great musicians that are coming. Just enjoy that - or don't show up. No one needs an audience looking past the band on stage to see if Prince has shown up. Jeeeez.

that's my great frustration with this event. every year they try to hype it up with a playful little hint that prince might appear, and they really don't need to do that. in my opinion, it's an insult to the great musicians that any diehard prince fan would go bananas to see play the classics. you think prince is gonna play "head" these days? you think they'd have the nerve to play it at the family reunion jam if he showed up? there was such a strong vibe of history at last year's show, it's something you oddly don't get at a "real" prince concert. it's not just being able to hear the "naughty" songs again, but being able to hear the great band members from over the years and enjoy what they brought to those classic songs to make them great. "alexander nevermind" can just stay at home on this occasion for all i care. talk to the hand lol

Yup.

Who's rude? I asked a simple question because I didn't recognize the names. If the-ego-that-is GSharp wants to be recognized by his name alone, than perhaps he should by the name he was used for his (limited) amount of work with Prince: Greg Sain, not some lame alias.

How brown is your nose?

In reply to the "lame alias"...
I was labled, "GSHARP" by Terry Casey and dug it...however, when motown was doing the liner notes, Maz's manager said I would have a greater chance of getting more work in writing and production if I used my real name.

Fast forward: Grammy. I toured with Jimmie Vaughan, and won a Grammy for writing on his last album, "Do You Get The Blues?"

GSHARP IS the name I am most noted for in the music performance world, and since it doesn't matter to me about any business affiliation to Prince, I haven't sought to totally associate myself to him professionally, since all of my musical successes were apart form him, his camp, and Minneapolis. (which is probably why our relationship is sound; I don't want anything from him...)

I am an accomplished businessman as well as musician, but It always has been and always be about freedom of choice; something that is rare in the Purple Kingdom...

you can't go wrong with anything downtown. then you can just take a cab or the lightrail to the club. just see what kind of hotel deals you can hook up with orbitz, travelocity, etc.

Fair enough dude, my response was more out of pique towards the "rude" comment than any real thoughts about you. I didn't really mean that "lame" remark. I've heard nothing but good things about the Combo over the years, and I'm sure you put on a great show.

However, I think maybe you should tone down the selfpromtion a bit: That Grammy you "won"? You may have played on/written some of the material on that album, but your name isn't on that trophy, and I'd be shocked it's in your possession either. How would Jimmie feel about you taking credit for his win? And you're accomplished business is in some sort of get-rich-quick internet marketing scheme? HA!

Like that it is something important?

Simply face it... without the Prince / Paisley Park connection no-one would give a shit about Mazeratti. A far mediocre band. The fact that none of them has done anything even slightly significant after the release of their first (poor) album, says enough.

To take it a step further even... most of the musicians playing on this 'Prince family reunion' have never been able to start a promising career for themselves, and they simple (ab)use the fact that they played with Prince in the past in an opportunistic way to 'sell' themselves.

This sounds good, but I'm a little suspcious of a couple of those folks listed as having worked with Prince: Donnie LaMarca? G Sharp ? When and where did that happen? I've never heard of either one of them.

This is GSHARP...Set your mind at ease...I toured with Prince as his opening act on the D&P Tour with Carmen Electra in MY band...That band included my best friend, Morris Hayes who came to Mpls. at my request to help me whip Mazarati into shape! (that's right, I was in that band too on the second album; I sang half of the songs) Morris and I also produced Margie Cox's single, "Standing At the Altar" along with Prince...Also had you been a REAL Prince fan, you would know that I'm one of the few people who doesn't need "clearance' to hang out with Prince! LOL
Also, out of all of the people on this reunion show, I'm one of maybe 3 who has won a Grammy...Not an AMA, not a Minneapolis Music Award, but a Grammy...With that said, come to the show, and prepare for me to show you why whenever Prince jams, he calls ME to the stage... I'm the Greatest...I'm Pretty...I don't have a mark on my face, I SHOOK UP THE WORLD!!! I MUST be the Greatest! I'm so good, I might take up collection in the middle of the show! wink

The axx-catz of the Maz today : Tony Christian & Craig "Screamer" Powell

...Both these cats were good guitarists live. Especially Craig, he could burn. I wouldn't mind seeing MZ live again. I LOVED Mazarati's debut album and I got to see them live in 86. Romeo was another Brown Mark on bass. That cat could thump and slang on the bass without missing any of his dance steps! All of the musicians in the band were good. Sir Casey had good stage pressence as a frontman but his vocals were too thin live back then.

No, it says nothing more than your biased opinion. You don't dig them, fine, no prob, but not with stating your opinion as a fact that should count for everyone.

It's just one time a year where former colleagues meet up with fans and jam the stage. All in fun for everyone to have a good time and reminisce some memories. Nothing more nothing less.

Thanks ! Yeah, i've seen some solid live-footage from 1986 where you could watch them rip the stage.

giggle When it said "several VERY special surprise guests" would be there, it made me wonder if Prince would make a surprise appearance? I probably am just getting my hopes up for nothing. Even if Prince DID say he was going to be there, who's to say he wouldn't change his mind at the very last minute? lol

don't get your hopes up. they tried to hype it last year like prince "might" be there, but of course it didn't happen.

and you know what? they didn't NEED him there. it was an excellent show with or without dude actually being there in person. the whole night was worth it to me just to a) hear eric leeds play his sax all night; b) have a chance to hear "modernaire" live; and c) hear the man himself, dr. matt fink, tear it up on the keyboard solo for "head". just for those three things alone, i was more than satisfied with last year's show. nod

If I'm not mistaken, I think they went as far to say O+> would be making an appearance. Whatever the case, it was a really fun show. I just need to remember to bring some skeezer repellent. lol

Can't remember the lead singer dude but he was the only part I didn't love. Otherwise, seeing Eric on sax...Dez...singing and playing Modernaire? faint
