What happened the new Albums from the Time & the Family?

Are they still coming out?
We all want a big hit again because
we want to relive the Hysteria & Pandemonium we experienced
when Purple Rain was Hot. Actually, he doesn't care if it happens again or not.

I'm almost sure JJ said the Time project was pretty much done. I'm not sure what's going on with the Family though.

The Family are recording and close to done. And having heard some of them, they ARE FUCKING EXCELLENT! It's the perfect mix of classic Family and current sounds. Paul, Susannah, Eric, and Jellybean are all on the album. Wendy, Lisa, and Doyle Bramhall II are all on the album too. Doyle's one-take solo on "Drummers and Healers" is to freakin' DIE for.

The Family often turns on the camera and streams live studio sessions, and interacts with fans in the chat room. If you follow The Family on Twitter, you'll be updated when all that happens. There was just a 3 hour session two nights ago that was incredible. Paul and Eric were in MPLS in the studio, Susannah was skyping in and WEndy joined in. Lisa was in the chat, as was Wendy's father. Alan Leeds and Steve Parke (who said he never owned a jeep and discounted the "jeep" samples on "Face Down") have been in chat in past sessions.

They do not have a name for the album yet. There is some question as to whether Prince owns "The Family" name or not, and if so, what they would go by instead. I figured "Family" would work because when The Jacksons left Motown, Motown owned the name. They then went by "Jacksons" and still do.

There are about 10 songs for the album, but they are looking to add about two more.

"Drummers and Healers" is the song to look out for. It's incrediblicious!

Go to their Myspace and sample "@8".

As much as i would love to love it, @8 is just not very good.
They are going to be very disapointed with the sales of this album if thats one of their best on this project.

First of all negativenancy, no one said that was their best. I didn't say that either. It's an unfinished sample. Second of all, what would be "disappointing sales"? Prince didn't even clear a quarter million and people are giving him the benefit of the doubt. Third, I've heard some of the songs (about 4 or 5). The ballads are a freakin' killer. So beautiful. Frankly it outshines anything Prince has done in the past 10 years as far as a ballad goes. Let's not kill it before it's born.

i have to agree. The melodies alone are amazing. Something that seems to be lost to many artists anymore. Even the funk numbers have solid melody rather than jammy jam type chords. I really thought no one could write like that anymore. Most of the funk I hear is half written loose jumbles of good playing, but no song structure. I was thinking somehow the knowledge of how to do it right some how got lost in the early 80s. Glad to be proved wrong;)

lol, i said based on that sample PlantyMc'Plant.
I also said i was hoping to like it, if that's negativity then so be it.

I have no impression that Prince sales and music of late are all that great either.
My point was simply that the song sample is not very good (to me) and if thats a sample of what the album would sound like that i did not foresee it doing too well.
And by the way, i still do hope to love their new album, and hopefully it does outshine anything Prince has done in the past,.... but i don't know why you would want to say something like that, casue it sounds kinda negative. wink

On the other hand,
the sample of the girls other side project, Edith Funker is awesome.
That sample on their site has me psyched for that release and for seeing them in concert soon. heck i even love their name and hope to buy one of their t-shirts.

As far as i know both r still coming out.

The funny thing is that Jerome Benton is supposed 2 b (doing nothing) in BOTH bands.

The other funny thing is that both albums r actually b the FIRST album by either band (at least 4 The Family, The Time being responsible 4 half of Pandemonium).

The whole Family concept sounds weird 2 me because contrarly 2 The Time who at least was a real band on stage 4 several tours, The Family was a band only 4 a photo session, a few rehearsals and one concert. But the music sounds coll, though.

and recording it. Prince didn't sing or play sax anyway. From what I've heard of the project they certainly sound like they had a hand in parts of it- or they are simply amazing musicians and can grab the feel with a contemporary sound far better than Prince can do with his "sound". Which is impressive as hell imo.

I heard it was more an issue of Warner Bros. owning the name, not Prince.

It's not about them being good or not.

Except 4 the 2 intrumentals which were just Prince & Eric jamming 2gether, Prince recorded the whole songs then he had Eric adding sax on them THEN he had Paul & Susannah replacing his voice and Jerome adding a few shouts here & there and when it was finished he sent it 2 Clare Fischer. Jellybean never played ONE NOTE on the album and no one recorded their parts at the same time.

Basically, The Family is a solo album by Prince.

All they have to do is change the spelling it's not that big of an obsticle!
the Familie. Or Our Family.

Is Clare Fisher working with them He made that Album regal.

Maybe his studio-contribution might not be much, though i couldn't state that as a proven fact.
But stagewise on the other hand, it's not that he's just standing still like a lifeless person when performing with both bands, is it ?
If you've checked previous live-shows, then you could see that he added percussion and background vocals in the mix.
