REMEMBERING OR TRYING TO FORGET MAZARATI?? Mazarati was an R&B band formed in the mid-1980s by basist Brown Mark. It was not his choice to have Mazarati dress in hand me down Prince clothes but of course their draggy look did nothing for their image and music. I dug them like for a minute....hot girly guys playing electric guitar and flexing their muscles? Come on...that's hot! They just had two songs that i remember, "100 MPH" and "Players Ball" and I really liked Players Ball I think they could have gone a lot farther if Prince would have put more effort into them.

Wow, remembering definately. Their PP album is one of my all time favourite records, Prince-related or otherwise.
I loved their look too - If you're a pop musician and they're NOT calling you "faggot", you're doing it wrong

Their debut album is one of my favorites.I like it even more than 'Parade'.
"Stroke" is the funkiest jam that came out of Minneapolis in 1986 "She's Just That Kinda Lady" is what The Time might have sounded like if they had still been together in 1986.It rivals anything on 'Ice Cream Castles'. The slow jam "I Guess It's All Over" is silky smooth, with haunting verses and a bassline that takes you to heaven. "Player's Ball" and "100 MPH" are shining examples of the mid-80s Minneaopolis Sound.....lots of synth and funky bass. "Lonely Girl On Bourbon Street" is a perfect rock/pop ballad, and the guys rock even harder on "Strawberry Lover". The controversial "Suzy" is alot of fun. It's the album's weakest track and yet,it's still a very good song.Hilarious lyrics.

Has anyone heard their second album 'Mazarati II',released in 1989 on Motown? Somebody told me that it's a New Jack Swing disaster, and not nearly as good as the first album.

The second album had some tracks produced by Bernadette Cooper (Klymaxx), it was OK, but not a patch on the first LP.

It was Mark's project, not Prince's. Prince loaned a song, and wrote lyrics to two others. Prince had his own hands full finishing the music and editing on a movie, etc etc. Mazarati were their own thing, and could have continued on if they really wanted to. Hell, they were on MTV to a national audience glued to the set.

Poison came around a year later with the same kind of look and it didn't hurt them.

They were supposed to be more Time flavored. Mark said he got blamed for their look and subsequent mediocrity/failure.

Poison came around a year later with the same kind of look and it didn't hurt them. I was going to say the same thing Poison had the same look pushed a bit more with lip gloss the 80's bands musicians singers were in a time out of the 70's that you could and were expected to really do up your look There was nothing freaky about the look Mazarati had In my opinion it was Purple Rain/Parade But the music to me felt like Princes For U/Prince/Dirty Mind sound I love the album and as Prince(proteges) they really did represent in look sound and performance I heard them jam Head & American with Sheila at an aftershow and they tore it up real showmanship the guitarist Terry Christian has a myspace page It would be so cool if they pulled back 2gether, it's prime time 4 them, they would definately have a big fan following So much 70's and 80's is retro and In now they represent the wilder side the family the smoother side

Hell, they were on MTV to a national audience glued to the set. Actually,it was Mark's project in the beginning but then Prince took over Mark discovered these guys in 1984 and initially,he tried to "keep them a secret" from Prince. He knew that Prince would wanna take over and control the project, and that's sorta what happened.Prince re-wrote some of the songs on the their debut album (for example,"We Did Things Our Way" became "I Guess It's All Over") and he dressed them in those androgynous outfits. There was even talk that Prince would feature them in a movie project. But when their album didn't became a huge success,Mark says that he was the one who was blamed."Prince put them in those clothes,he dressed them like that",he said."They blamed me for alot of things". The promotion and marketing at Paisley Park Records wasn't very effective in those days, which is why their album didn't do very well. The exact same thing happened with The Family and Jill Jones. These albums were released without a long-term promotional strategy.

I've never cared for the guys. The only thing interesting was P was involved. The best thing about this lp was the cover....lol.
They looked more like a Rick James project than a P side. I can't even remember anything that stands out about these guys or their music.....shame. The Time is the best side project ever created. "
