Gheezus. Ungrateful. The Family and Jill Jones albums are two of the best loved protege albums to date, and when one of those gets back together to do a project, solely based on the fan response from FOUR YEARS AGO (and a good judge from ?uestlove), why not just say "Hey....I'm excited to hear what they're doing.", instead of all the negative boolsheet?
Who said that?...I dig The Family...Love the album...And I think their new shit will indeed be cool...A nice little throwback to an era that I really dug... But I can also give props to the Family without shitting on the Midget like a fan with battered wife syndrome...lol

A possible Wendy & Lisa w/ the Family tour in February? I could definitely live with that. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

She aint exactly Bria..ah, um. Awww, come on! Susannah must have, what at least 15 years on Bria (off the top of my head). And she was just chillin', not dolled up like a drag queen like Bria when she's on show. Ahem.... I thought it was interesting what she said about Madonna, nothing we didn't already know - change a word, take a third and all that. . [Edited 4/27/09 14:26pm]

Your right, but the Family will always be connected 2 Prince but I did read one of St Pauls & Alan Leeds blogs about the new album and name of the group, and they said they are talking 2 Prince about doing something on the album with them...

It's nice to see artists embrace their fans. Can't wait for the new LP, though it sounds like it might not hit us until the end of the year.
Clare Fisher may be on board! That'll freakin' kill me. oh, u just live taking jabs at P. But good thing he doesnt take 24 years to come out w/another LP. While it is cool 2 chat w/them, they need their small fanbase much more than P. I was generalizing. What am I, the fuckin' Thread Whisperer? what does prince's relative speed of working and relative popularity have to do with anything anyway?
this isn't the family vs. prince. it's time for a new direction / it's time for jazz to die

but I did read one of St Pauls & Alan Leeds blogs about the new album and name of the group, and they said they are talking 2 Prince about doing something on the album with them... They've talked to Prince about the name, but Prince owns it and is adamant that they canNOT use it. That's why you see Family 2.0 as a brand, FOR NOW. They've thought about The Family Album, or Family Reunion. They joked that a manager they know said, "If it looks good on a T-shirt, use it!" So, for now, they aren't sure what name they'll use. Susannah gets phone calls from Prince on occasion, and they see each other out at the same places sometimes, so she is "in touch" with Prince on a semi-regular basis. It's not an everyday or even every week thing. The great thing about a protege group is when they can rise above the Prince connection. The Time certainly did. Jill Jones did. Vanity did to an extent. Wendy and Lisa (not a protege of course) did. Fink made a name for himself in the business; people know who he is, and use his talents, etc. Susannah said she'd love to use a Prince song on the record, BUT she wouldn't do it JUST BECAUSE it might sell records, or whatever. She said, "In my heart of hearts, it has to fit the record, or else I wouldn't do it. I'm not going to do it just because the name might sell some records. This project is about so much more than that." She's right on the money. In the end though, Prince will have no involvement with it. But with Wendy, Lisa, Doyle, Oliver Lieber, plus the original members, and Clare Fisher.....who NEEDS Prince?

I agree, from what I've heard so far it is seriously the Family music vibe Like St Paul said to/concerning Prince let's move past that incident, get2gether and make some great music

Like St Paul said to/concerning Prince let's move past that incident, get2gether and make some great music I think both have moved on. Paul stated that when his brother was producing Prince stuff in the 90's, that he (Paul) was around at Paisley Park. It was awkward a bit, but they got past it eventually. Remember, they're older and wiser now. It's been a quarter of a century (sounds bigger that way) since The Family was a unit. Water under the bridge at this point. But moving on doesn't mean moving in the same direction the whole time. There just won't be any P involvement on this record. And I agree w/ you on the "vibe" of the record. It was me who told Paul over and over that this record sounded like old Family mixed with current ideas. It's a perfect mesh of both. He stated he didn't set out with "We have to remake that old record" type headset in his brain. He just wanted them to make music together. The fact that it has that old vibe is a testament not only to Paul's excellent writing (along with Susannah's), but to his musicianship and keen ear for a good song.

Perspective...
I dont actually look at it as a reunion To me its more a new development in independents Prince actually gave life to this project and it was said somewhere else many years ago that Prince lost interest in this project and he killed it. He had his name to Protect also, and i dont think anyone else was upto his speed and eloquence on love and romance at that time so it would of been wrong and dooemed to fail anyway if anyone else had of grabbed the oars and started rowing this boat but when you listen to Paul and Susannah now - these guys have gotta a good thing going on and it is something new being brought to the table rather than a rehash of the older Prince Project. I am sorta hoping they dont hang onto the Prince Family badge as the name coz this aint really his show this time around its fresh its alive and it has momentum and i love it.... and Prince can suck lollipops,,, and I'm not being negative or subliminal.. coz he seems to love those candystick things [Edited 4/27/09 23:46pm]

I wish them well. Believe me- I agree! I was kind of worried about it. After checking out a few of the broadcasts I am not anymore. They have managed to capture it again imo. Or maybe they just created the lightening from scratch?

I consider this Family 2.0 thing to be new and not a continuation of thier first project as that was all Prince. P had already recorded and sung the songs and better than St Paul, imo.
They should just use a new name as this is thier thing now, P isnt involved--yet. Stand Up! Everybody, this is your life!

The first Family album that Prince did wasn't even that good. And it was a Prince album with Paul & Susannah handling the vocals and maybe some Eric Leeds thrown in here and there.
This appears to be a Paul P/Susannah composed album for the most part. I have no idea if their song writing chops are any good these days. From what I hear in the videos, it seems like they are going with some real R&B/Mpls Sound and that will be great to hear that again...no one that I know of is doing music like that now..not even Prince.

I am looking forward to this cd! Could care less what they end up being called, I look forward to hearing new music from people/groups I have liked in the past. Look at all the crap being put out there today- who wouldnt be excited to actually hear music from real musicians?
Listened to whole live feed and nice to hear how people did keep in touch and were also able to go on and have their own separate careers and lives, but obviously remain fond of each other.

Are Paul and Susannah a couple? I ask because the body language in that Q and A.....?
He seems to have his arm around her.. Liked the part where she talks about asking P not to release 'Miss Understood' because the didn't like the vocal, but she acknowledges that its out on bootleg! [Edited 5/14/09 9:23am]
