Officially (i think) it was that Universal decided not 2 release it.

But...

1) The masters belonged 2 Prince not Universal,
2) It's obvious that Tamar wanted this 2 b released: it would have sold 10 times what her current album or any other without Prince would or will sale (whatever the musical quality) just because of Prince's fanbase.
3) There r dozens of independants labels that would have LOVED 2 b able 2 release a very profitable (4 an indie anyway) Prince side-project.

So either
1) Something went wrong between Tamar & Prince as friends.
2 )Prince just got bored with the project, like he often does, when Universal shelved it & he just let it fall in the vault without caring anymore & Tamar couldn't convince him 2 give it 2 an independant label.
3) He met Bria and she "replaced" Tamar the way Carmen replaced Robin Power back in 1991, ando he lost all interest in "Milk & Honey".

I guess that'll remain a mystery... at least until Tamar speaks and i guess she will... one day...

But what about those Japanese CDs that were sold on ebay? Aren´t they legit releases ?

There were also promo CDs at least in UK.

This whole "replacing" thing is juvenile. If Tamar was going to be "replaced", he would have done it way before she left the Prince camp. He could have grown bored with it. But he could also let her release it, promote it on her own w/ her management, and he'd still make his money from it. There's obviously enough interest in it.

Fans end up with stuff anyway, so why not release it and make the money from it?! He's an idiot.

And there's no comparing Tamar and Bria, any more than comparing Jill Jones and Vanity, or Carmen and Robin (ps Robin's a total whack job if you've ever seen her videos on YouTube, she's GONE). Prince was overly possessive w/ Carmen, and Robin was just a big ol' chunk of weirdness around that time.
