Pandemonium The Time Ice Cream Castles THAT'S the order of Time albums, good to bad. You Got that right What time is it is my favorite album EVER, by Anybody. I never get tired of it. Pandemonium has my favorite Time song(Skillet) and Blondie. I love it when these guys rock and I wish they had a few more tunes like this The Time sets up the whole style and attitude of the band. I never really appreciated this album until I saw them live. Ice Cream castles- My first Time album, but 25 years later its my least favorite. Kid and chili sauce are humorous on occasion. The title track is my least favorite Time song. The Bird is a fun song and Jungle Love never gets old, but my favorite is My drawers. That song kicks ass

Chocolate?!! Skillet!! Blondie!! Title track? 'Pandemonium' is a messy, unfocused album. There are a few good songs on it ("Jerkout","It's Your World") but as a complete album,it's nothing to write home about.

The bird Ice Cream Castles My Drawers True, but that's one side of vinyl, the previous 2 albums are pretty much 2 sides of great tracks each. Pandemonium is great too. ICC has the hits, but not much else. Was Prince trying to play down The Time at the moment he knew they all would have the biggest exposure? I dunno, but it seems like a Prince-ly thing to do. My guess is that.... Prince was working on alot of projects in 1984 and he didn't have enough time to come up with something truly amazing for 'Ice Cream Castles'.The songwriting is mediocre throughout and the album seems hastily thrown together."Chili Sauce" is filler,"If The Kid Can't Make You Come" is more of a skit than a proper slow jam,and "The Bird" seems like an attempt to come up with another cool dance song like "The Walk",only it's not nearly as good. The title track is an okay song but it doesn't really "fit" The Time.Compared to past singles like "777-9311" and "Cool","Ice Cream Castles" seems lightweight.

He gave it to Mazarati for their debut but Sir Casey wasn't comfortable with the lyrics so..On that thread, I mentioned about that I heard that a demo version of the song Ice Cream Castles with P's "guide" vocals existed. Which I don't doubt cuz P did that with all of the songs he wrote for The Time, Sheila, Vanity, etc. The thing that intrigued me about P's version of Ice Cream Castles is that I heard there were some "Jerk Out" type lyrics included regarding bruthas and white girls. Morris told me personally back in 96 that he was NEVER a fan of the song but that P loved the track so...At the time of the release of the single in the early summer of 84, black radio out here in L.A. was wearing this song out on the radio and pop radio was giving it some airplay. It didn't blow up overall like Jungle Love and The Bird but I always liked the song. I thought it was a good change for The Time. As far as the album, the album overall is weak. Largely because there was much friction between P and Morris carrying over from the 1999 tour. Morris was strictly hanging around for the movie and after that, he was gone. P knew this so in my opinion, I think P held back on the material for that album. Although I like My Drawers as well. But Chilli Sauce and If The Kid Can't Make U Come which is a Prince reference from his role in Purple Rain, those two songs are so SORRY that it brought down the album. The Time ALWAYS had great ballads before that so that was a let down to me. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

The Time ALWAYS had great ballads before that so that was a let down to me. Yeah, the friction between Prince and Morris is one of the reasons why 'Ice Cream Castles' is such a weak album. When Prince fired Jam and Lewis in 1983,it changed things.I remember an interview from that era where Morris said that he didn't want the Time to become "a musical hotel, with different members coming and going" (or something to that effect). The original members had formed a strong bond and once that bond was broken,it affected the group.Like you say,Prince knew that Morris was leaving so he didn't put alot of effort into these songs. There's not ONE song on this album that compares to the best moments on 'What Time Is It'."My Drawers" is the best song on the album."Chili Sauce" and "If The Kid Can't Make U Come" are lame, filler tracks."Girl","Oh Baby" and especially "Gigolos Get Lonely Too" are SUPERB slow jams, but on this album, the best Prince can do is "If The Kid Can't Make U Come"??

And does no one see the backward nature of "the Kid" moniker being used on a The Time album? Isn't it more of a Prince song, since that was his character's name in the movie?

Did Morris ever say he hated having to sing "If the Kid Can't Make You Come"? I would think he would have a bigger problem with that one instead of "Ice Cream Castles." The gay innuendos were flying around Prince and The Time already, and the song has such a quality of "Morris, you're my bitch now" about it. By the way, BGz, it is really, really good to see you posting here again.

I bought the 'Ice Cream Castles' album after seeing 'Purple Rain',so when I saw the song title "If The Kid Can't Make You Come",I naturally assumed that Morris would be singing a song that critizes "The Kid (Prince)",lol....you know...
if that punk can't make you come, you should call me,I'm a REAL MAN I was surprised to find out that "the kid" in that song is actually Morris' penis, lol.

Morris didn't say to me that he didn't like any of the other songs, just that title track. I told him that I always liked the song Ice Cream Castles. That I liked the song title, the music, the melody and the lyrics. The whole 9! I talked to him about how I was into The Time from the get go and how big they were out here in So. Cali really since their first single release with "Get It Up". I told him how I went to see them when they opened for P on the Controversy tour in Feb 82 and how I fucked around and didn't go see them a few days later when they played at The Roxy, when I actually could have went. I told him that's a regret I always had. I told him about how I was surprised to NOT see them on the bill when I went to see P on his 1999 tour in March 83. A day after my birthday actually. On that show out here in L.A, it was just Vanity 6 and P. But then when I went again to see P at Long Beach just 3 days later, The Time was on the bill. Morris told me that was because P, (that's what Morris, Andre, and all of the guys who knew him from way back calls him) he didn't want to be shown up in the major cities like New York and L.A "cuz The Time were too hard". Those were his exact words. As much as I loved The Time, (and I'm speaking of course of the o.g. line-up) and having seen them on two different tours opening for Prince, I never once thought that they "outshined" P. They were entirely two different types of bands. Although P was writing the bulk of the material, the energy from both bands were polar opposites. The personalities of the members in The Time and P's band had to come into account. Many people saw it as P vs Morris but that wasn't the case when you ACTUALLY saw them live in the flesh. The other band members in both bands were very dominant as well. Especially in P's own band. Dez and Mark upfront with P worked very well, and on the 1999 tour, adding Jill sometimes on stage (not just on the encore song 1999), her and Lisa were really cool. I definately feel P's band more than held up their end as a live act. Being just as good if not BETTER in some elements. And no one could fuck with P as a live performer back then. Certainly not Morris. As cool and fun as Morris was, Prince was in a TOTALLY different class. Even back then. [Edited 5/14/09 14:33pm] SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Yeah I love My Drawers it was always one of my favorites
