Anyone else loving Bria Valente's Elixer CD?

I am! I've been listening 2 the CD while driving with my mom and sister all evening. And they're loving it, too!

Does anyone know if Prince wrote all the tracks of the album or any of the songs co-written by Bria? Thanks!

It's the weakest of the three, but it's certainly more than listenable. The only tracks I could do without are "2nite" and "Home". "Elixer" (the song) is one of this most seductive ditties ever IMO... I love the play on words - they're clearly singing "he licks her" razz

That's a trip. I like "Home" quite a bit.

Thanks for posting! Good 2 know Bria collaborated with Prince in all the songs. That says a lot!

The more I listen to the CD, the more I'm loving it! I actually listen to the whole album without skipping and great music to have playing in the background while chillin' at home or driving around. Very soothing!

Her album is slammin'! Prince gave her a lot of top notch material. If he kept those songs for himself, he would have had three funky albums in one set, in fact since he did all the music and wrote the songs he does have three funky albums in one set.

If you like Jazzy/R&B, much like Sade, then Bria's "Elixer" CD is the best of the three. Maybe I need more time to listen to them all, but Prince must really like Bria because there seems to be more love put into this protege than with previous ones. If Bria gets the proper promotion, she could blow up with this CD.

Yes, I agree that it has a smooth jazz/r&b sound, but Sade has her own distinct smooth sound, as Bria does.

The album is fantastic, what isn't to like? It is a Prince record after all, and a darn good one. His production of Bria's vocals is fantastic, Another Boy and Kept Woman are pure Prince while Elixir and Immersion could only have been done by our man.

It amazes me how people talk trash about this without even really listening to it, the first 3 seconds of each song doesn't count. Give it 2 full listens through in it's entirety at least. For me, I like to judge these types of releases on the merit of the music itself, and not discount everything as being crap just because Prince is not on lead.

To me this is just as much a Prince record as any of the other two. Why? Well he wrote the songs, is playing the instruments, backup vocals everywhere, etc. How a fan could not celebrate this album like any other release makes no sense. If one could actually listen to this through a few times and then say every song is crap, well ok, I would have to respect that opinion, but I don't think this is the case.

So he is not signing lead, but I bet the same haters would be lovin this if he was, which means most of the trashing that goes on for this cd has nothing to do with the music itself and everything to do with the fact Bria is singing instead of Prince. Just my opinion, but that is the wrong way to approach this CD or any other CD Prince creates that has another singing lead vocals.

peace & enjoy - we have 4 albums now from Prince in 6 months! What a gift.

As good as or better than any R&B female vocal album out right now.
Prince did some very good arrangements.

I didn't make it past the fourth track - and I skipped half of the third.

Of course, it probably didn't help that I listened to it immediately after the other two discs.

I actually enjoy this album. The smooth jazz tracks are a winner. "Something you already know" "All This Love", "Elixir", "Everytime", (The beginning of this track reminds me of "Te Amo Corazon"), and "Kept Woman", all 5 I could hear a smooth jazz station like CD101.9 playing. "Another Boy" and "Home" are definitely R&B tracks I could see being rotated on R&B stations or mainstream.

Now the track "2nite" definitely a hot dance track that could be pushed to play in clubs and mainstream radio.

if only cd101.9 was still on the air sad i missed hearing candy or even brian gallagher on that station.

but back 2 the topic ..i'm digging this album and in honesty both tamar and bria have solid albums.
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81
