Bria ...oh lordy lordy I tried to like you... I listened to Elixer twice...ugh... I'm sorry...I don't get it....Child of the Sun was easier to listen to...
So I had to try to figure out why she was attached to Lotusflow3r...I mean she is attractive...not hot though...and is an okay singer...but doesn't have a great voice.....so I am stuck...why her and why now? The only track I think is even kind of good is Here Eye Come....anybody else feelin' Bria Valente?

He had to give her album away for free with his because nobody would buy it otherwise.

why her and why now?
Because Prince doesn't know what art is anymore.

I have seen much more favorable reviews for her album in the associated artist album thread. I think people who don't like mainstream r&b or people like Amel Lerriux or even Goapele wont appreciate this album at all. I think it is a sultry seductive laid back album with very good instrumentation.
I did not expect her to "blow my mind" especially now and days it takes alot to do that with music. Everybody has their opinion though, don't like it don't listen to it. Im glad I got it though It was the perfect way to extend his music...I had no problem...he can give me a 4th cd of another protege and I'd be happy....as long as it dont sound like "Arrogance" or "3 Chains Of Gold" I'm good. Here is my two cents about the Bria disk; Here Eye Go should have been the track after "U'RE Gonna C Me" on the MPLSound Disk and keep at 2 disk collection.
Sade, u have NOTHING to worry about (but please out out a CD soon!! Please!!) Prince must have lost it to even put this girl, Bria, and Sade in the same sentence. And if I were Amel Larrieux, I would be insulted to be compare to this chick. I read somewhere that Bria's CD was suppose to re-ignite the "Quite Storm" vibe. Well, Elixar is more like a "Thunderstorm". Can anyone say "Hot Mess"!! Can't lay all the blame on Bria though. the poor thing was doing the best she could with what she got...which appears to be very limited. It seems like she was singing in a way that is not natural to her and it comes off as forced to me. There is no life in any of the songs. She may very well be a good singer, but not for the material she was given. (But then again, I heard some good singers take some bad stuff and rip it up!). Bria sounds more "POP" to me. But again in Bria defense, Tamar is a good singer, but some of that stuff on Milk and Honey was straight garage! ( (And the girl can blow! (I saw her in Chi-town when she was with Prince and again during Tyler Perry latest play tour. I also want to say "Kept Women", sorry Tamar did it wayyyy better, hands down). The "Purple One" made a major mistake with this disk, pairing the wrong type of singer with sub par material. Maybe if he had "tweak" the material and got a strong singer with a jazz/r&b background, it would have been a better CD. Oh, I gave Elixar to my four year old son and laughed as he happily destroyed it!

yeah. that was stupid. FOUR? Brilliant move.
Frankly I think Elixer is - as a whole - better conceived and cohesive than the Mplsound set. But neither of then survived my trash bin.

I am diggign this album - its better than Tamar. I couldnt stand her for more than half a record. This album is geared towad a more adult audience that has some smooth jazz sensibilities. If you cant appreciate the kind of music that yousit down and listen to (without requiring the teenage American Bandstand standard of "having a good beat and being easy to dance to"), you will not see much in this album - not unlike fans that did not get NEWS or Xpectation. I actually like Bria's CD better than the MLPS disc. It's a decent chill out CD and it's unusual to hear a woman sing sensual lyrics like that about wanting a man (unless P wrote them all for her). Don't usually hear that too often.
Like the other poster said, Sade has nothing to worry about. Will Bria be around a year from now? Who knows.

yea I agree...I think the album is his best 'protege' cd since Jill Jones...even though its not saying much its better than Carmen..the Npg albums the Chaka and Tamar albums in my opinion. Straight Jacket Funk Affair

Did anyone care to want to know what "destroying" a CD to my four year old means? He pasted dry cereal(Trix) to the front of the disk to form a mouth, nose and eyes. Next he affixed this CD to construction paper with school glue and drew ears, whiskers & a body and called it a "Cat". He make a "CRAFT PROJECT" out of it! At LEAST he recycled the thing...which was a lot better than what most people did and just threw it in the trash can! So before you jump to conclusions and call someone that YOU DO NOT KNOW..irresponsible, find out all of the facts. Yes, he destroyed to CD...but he made a very beautiful project with it and he is proud displayed his art on my fridge.

(Please, refer to the topic again) Just to prove a point, I have also stated in another thread that Tamar had a good voice but Milk and Honey was straight garage, so just because someone disagree with YOUR position, do not make them "jealous". Again, jealous of who exactly? You trashed Tamar in an earlier post, but you did not see me post anything to say the YOU WERE JEALOUS! I still stand behind what I said about Bria CD's..in MY OPINION, this CD is not all that it's hyped to be. IN MY OPINION, while it trying to gear itself to the adult R&B/smooth jazz crowd, it just nothing special. Sade, Anita, Luther, Frankie Bev & Maze, Grover Washington, Maxwell, D'Angelo, are artist that fall into this category and Bria's CD is just short of that...again IMO!

I give Prince props for his production on this CD. This is the first record I've heard him produce where it doesn't sound exclusively like another Prince record. It shows major signs of growth for him as a producer and it looks like he was able to put his ego aside more on this record than on any other of his "projects" and focus on creating a palette for his artist.
