I don't agree with you about "Scarlet Pussy"...when I got that record (B-side to "I Wish U Heaven") I played the HELL out of it. It was one of my most heavily-played songs at that time. I heard a (very bad) copy of "Latino Barbie Doll" and even all fuzzy it sounds excellent! No, I have to say that this album could have been the one to put Sheila on the map. Sex Cymbal was a good album, but lacked that "" factor. By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

Sex Cymbal was a good album, but lacked that "" factor. Just based on the titles, I can see why Sheila would have a differing view on the direction Prince wanted to take her career in. This would have been a major change in her music and image. And yeah, I know no one would accuse Sheila's '80s work of being classy, by any means, but having "Nigs" and "Pussy" in two song titles? That's a little different, and it would have meant the album would have had trouble getting into some major retailers, hurting any commercial chances right off the bat. And not for nothing, but "Girl Power" might be the most ironic title in Prince's catalogue; that song is so not about an empowered woman. It's about a pretty pathetic woman, actually. I've never heard "Latino Barbie Doll," although I'd like to. Could someone explain to me why it isn't "Latina Barbie Doll"?

I'd like to hear her talk about her illness after the Sex Cymbal album and leaving after the Lovesexy tour, and what her fallout with Prince was all about.
I'd also like to know if her dad/family still own their night club in the Bay Area. And why hasn't she done another album on NPG? Her and Prince are tight again, and people would probably love another great pop album from her.

Actually,I felt that way about her third album...the self-titled album from 1987.THAT'S the album that should have turned her into a superstar. It was filled with strong, potential singles: "Faded Photographs","Love On A Blue Train",and "The Pride And The Passion".Unfortunately, the album received very little promotion and by the time it was released,Sheila had put her own career on hold to play drums for Prince. That was a huge mistake on her part (but a huge plus for Prince, lol).

Anxiety said: I've been waiting a long time for a new Sheila E. album. I know she released a gospel album a while back, though that seemed to be a relatively quiet release that was largely under the radar. I'd love to see her do something ambitious, like Wendy & Lisa are doing with their new album. Maybe you could ask her if she ever intends on putting together another big album project?

Also - if Prince really believes all that nonsense about "owning your own masters" then does Sheila E own the masters to HER music? (such as THIS never-released album that we are all itching to own????) Prince consider the stuff he writes & records 4 others "his" music. Actually Prince even owns "GCS2000" even though Larry wrote all the songs, just because Prince co-arranged & played almost everything on it. So as far as Prince is concerned, all the material he wrote & recorded 4 Sheila belongs 2 him (& in a sense... that makes sense.) Prince even owns the copyright 4 "The Time" name.

I would ask Sheila if she is going to release a 'best of' album and/or DVD. Her fans would love it. Also if she would like to do some more acting and what are her favourite TV programmes and movie. Which perfume does she wear?

Actually,I think "Koo Koo" was a weak single choice The groove is funky, but it has a weak chorus and no hook.Plus, the vocals are too subdued. It doesn't scream "hit single" to me."Faded Photographs",with it's strong, powerful chorus, would have been a better choice for second single. With the right kind of promotion, that could have been a Top 10 pop smash. I wish that Sheila had gone out on a solo tour with this album,in the spring/summer of '87.These tunes would have worked well in a live setting.

This one may be a touchy subject i didn't know if it would be cool to ask,..
Sheila played at the Santa Fe 7 day Christian celebration. The mayor scheduled to speak and guitarist Ramon Bermudez pulled out after reading on the Christian group, Revive's website that the troubles in this world are largely the result of the "homosexual explosion." How does she feel about people who feel that they cannot change their sexual orientation, does she believe homosexuality is a sin and as a California resident did she support Prop 8. Lastly, has she always been as spiritual/religious as she is now, if not was a there a turning point in her life that she would like to share about her personal spiritual awakening.

I ask that a moderator lock this topic so it doesn't generate any more responses. I will post a new topic after the interview is posted on my site... and stay tuned because we may be giving away some exclusive Sheila E. goodies!

If I'm not mistaken, wasn't there some issue between Prince and Margie Cox regarding ownership of music and her contract? That kind of thing. Owning music can mean several things: Owning a composition (who wrote the song?) or owning the master tape (who owns the recording of the song?). There were issues about both at different stages of Prince's carreer but in the case of Sheila E. it can only b about the masters (the composition thing was no problem, particularly with Prince offering Sheila all the writing royalties from "Romance 1600"). So at the moment the masters r owned by WB anyway, so basically what could and might happen is a conflict about WHO will be the owner of some side-projects when the "author" can claim 'em (i.e. after 35 years). Now i seriously doubt that Sheila will claim anything when this happens, she owes too much 2 Prince & they're friends anyway.
