once again...post a pic of yourself Brofie!

Exactly, let's see how fine and in great physical shape Brofile is. His comments about Aretha Franklin have no value whatsoever. Aretha is the Queen of Soul, and I don't care how many plastic barbies with fake boobs try to emulate her sound, they'll never grasp what she has earned and will not last as long as Aretha. Aretha was never exactly a thin female, and still made it through this industry. She is a highly, respected artist who is appreciated by those who know what real music is about and respect her for the artist she is.

I guess Brofie must be real fine the way he goes off criticizing the physical appearance of others. I can say one thing, Brofie would be no loss to the Black female population, and that is just based on how highly critical he is of them. Just because he has issues with some Black women who don't have flat asses and no hips, doesn't mean there aren't other men out there that find them attractive. Damn shame if he is Black with a Black mother to be making comments like that. On another note, I still don't see the reason he is comparing Tamar to Bria. Makes no sense, when these are two individual females with their own unique sounds.

Brofie's high criticism of Black females, reminds me of the character sargeant in that movie "A Soldier's Story". It was about a light-skinned sargeant, who would kiss all the white bosses asses and had that "Yes'um" smile on his face whenever they approached him. This sargeant would insult all the darker-skinned soldiers, calling them all kinds of names and was highly critical of them. Denzel Washington's character was the only one who stood up to the sargeant, and showed no fear, and the sargeant disliked Denzel's character because Denzel's character made the sargeant aware of his self-hatred and low-self esteem. Of course the movie ended in tragedy.

But yeah, getting back on topic, Brofie has been highly critical of Tamar, not for her singing, but because of her physical appearance altogether. Prince has had other proteges but Brofie didn't compare Bria to them. Brofie specifically singled out Tamar on about 2 or 3 threads. Seems more like he intentionally did it because he has issues with Black females period. It's not hard to read between his lines. Like I said, Brofie won't be any loss to the Black female population with that mentality. and Tamar, Aretha, or any other Black female is not going to disappear from the earth because some dude on a msg board has a personal issue with their appearance.

But in any case, I respect Tamar and Bria as two different individuals, with their own unique sounds, and wish both of them luck with their careers.

I havent said anything against black women. Not finding Tamar attractive is not a slight to black women and anyone accusing me of such is culturally limited - it makes Tamar the prototype for AFrican American female beauty. Black women are more varied in physical characteristics than women of any other race on Earth. It just isnt intelligent - or fair - to equate indifference for Tamar's looks with a disregard for black women as a whole.

If you are smart enough to speak on my motivations (without knowing me at all), you are probably smart enough to see other posts where I praise the black beauty of Nona Gaye, Vanity, and Susan Moonsie. But if the assumed posture of a combative and disrespected black woman feels better, knock yourself out.

My commentary is more about a culture that requires a remarkable physical beauty for female pop stars - with few exceptions. Unfortunately, black women have always been on the short end of that deal since this society is based on eurocentric beauty standards. Only recently have black women been portrayed and marketed as desirable and beautiful. There are world class beauties who epitomize African featues - I was a Grace Jones fan back in the 80s when it wasnt cool to dig a chick like her. I am old enough to have seen the heyday of Pam Grier, Tamara Dobson, Judy Pace, hell - even Thelma from Good Times! Tamar just isnt that pretty to me - and without being very attractive, average talent just wont get it these days. Sorry - I didnt make it that way.

One would be fooled by your posts. Anyway, I've said all I had to say on this topic, and like I said, I respect both these two "beautiful" females as artists in their own right. Their physical appearance in my opinion does not speak for their intelligence nor their talent, but their characters as individuals, passion for their music and perseverance, will determine how far they take their singing careers. But to each his own. Peace!

Sure, that's a "cheap" excuse for your sad point of view regarding Black females. But, if it makes your insecurities feel one percent better believing that every Black female that disagrees with your point of view, is a "combative, mad black woman", then I guess that is how you will always see it. Like I stated before, with your kind of mentality, in my opinion, you are no loss to the Black female population, so I'll leave it at that. Peace.

Preach the truth girl!

What makes ARetha Franklin unattractive is her puffy bulldog face and dusgusting body; not her black skin or features. Tamar's big forehand and widely spaced eyes could make her look exotic but only make her look like a greasy blowfish with a weave. She had some nice legs but we could see her start to chunk up just in the short time that Prince was showcasing her. Having to be seen between thopse Twinz all the time wasnt helping her either - not rock star queen can have backup singers who are way hotter than her and expect half the audience to look at her. Again, the shade of her skin tone isnt an issue. Prince was with Nona Gaye who is as dark as Tamar and no one complained because Nona is fine as wine - just a flat out beautiful black woman. Could she sing liek Tamar? No - but that doesnt matter in the highly stylized world of pop music today. There is a reason that the most incredible and talented musicial artist on the planet is known as much for his looks and style as he is for his music.

Oh, and sorry, I dont care how dark she was, that Black Sweat video chick wasnt hot.
[Edited 4/6/09 6:40am]

People like you are the problem with so much emphasis on physical appearance...how shallow is that? To reduce Aretha Franklin, who is so instrumental to the music world for nearly 50 years that she was crowned the "Queen of soul" to a Bulldog face and disgusting body? You're a real sweetheart ain't 'cha?

Was that Aretha singing at the inauguration? Thought so.

This style over substance idea is the reason that most of today's music is garbage, but as long as shallow individuals continue to buy into the hype things will never improve for any female who doesn't fit the stereotype that's being sold no matter how talented they may be.

As for Prince, if you step outside of the org you might find that for every person who finds him attractive there's at least five or so who don't dig his style or look at all...so much so that they don't even give his incredible music a chance. There's at least one thread every month on here by someone saying that they come here because it's the only place his looks, style and talent are appreciated. There's one in the music and more section right now, so there goes that hairbrained theory.

Strangely enough, there's no shortage of male stars in music who aren't particularly attractive, so why the double standard? Even though you now claim to have no bias against dark skin your sexism as well as your bias toward weight are still evident and certainly just as loathesome.

I'm sure the Britneys and Ciara's of the world appreciate your mentality but if you need a centerfold why not just buy yourself a Playboy and call it a day? It's obvious that quality music is not high on your list of priorities.
Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.
