Just for the record, there is absolutely no mention of such a comment on Jill's Facebook profile. In fact, she does not mention anything negative about Prince. Just thought I'd clear that up.

Ouch.

I don't keep up too much with proteges and such, but I agree if these statements are coming from her private facebook comments, it is pretty snarky to post them here.

I've always felt bad for Jill Jones. She's one of his most talented proteges, but she seems to be the one who didn't get the attention/fame she deserved. She was always put on the back burner. She joined the Prince camp in 1982 (singing on the '1999' album),but she had to sit back and watch Prince focus on lesser talents like Vanity and Apollonia. Then, when her album was finally released in 1987,it got zero promotion and sank without a trace.Several of the tracks are 'Purple Rain'-era outtakes and without question,if her album had been released in 1984/95,it would have done much better. She would have been able to benefit from the Purple Rain hype.By 1987,songs like "G-Spot" and "All Day/All Night" didn't stand a chance.

Then, when it came time to do a follow-up album, she got into a disagreement with Prince. She didn't like the throwaway songs that he was giving her and she wanted more control of her image/style.She was also furious at the tiny, insignificant role that Prince gave her in 'Grafiti Bridge'.He had promised her a bigger, more important role with more lines but in reality, her role wasn't any more meatier than the small part she played in 'Purple Rain'.This was the last straw for Jill. She asked to be released from her Paisley Park recording contract but Prince refused to release her.For seven years, she was trapped in this contract, unable to make new music elsewhere.By 1995,she was touring as a background vocalist in the band Chic, and never really got the opportunity to establish a legitimate, successful career of her own.

disbelief Prince can be such a punk sometimes! And while it's true he royally jerked her, I think she shouldn't have used facebook to air her grievances. Especially when WHAT she said wasn't really the case. confused

Exactly.

VERY important points imo.

People are reacting to this as if she posted this on her musician Facebook profile.
Which isn't the case. It was posted on her PRIVATE account, which only people
that have been added as her 'friends' can view.

Aside from the smaller role he gave her in G.B, he also replaced her vocals on Love Machine with Elisa Fiorello's. Quite degrading for his longest lasting protegée with such vocal skills to end up lipsynching to another woman's vocaltrack in the movie
And who was on stage with Prince in the performance Jill was "dissing"?
Oh yeah.....Elisa Fiorello wink

that's why I say JJ can say whatever the fuck she wants about him after all he put her through. He's a control freak when it comes to the women (or any artists for that matter) and there was definitely a lack of respect when it came to JJ and and her once budding career. Sure its been years but when is someone supposed to get past being royally screwed over by someone they cared about and thought cared about them? Do your thing Jill. Karma be a bitch tho, Princey aint had much luck in the fem department. The beautiful ones you always seem to lose. hmmm

but she didn't use facebook to "air her grievances". she just stated her opinion on what he's doing these days. and it was on her PERSONAL facebook page, which, while arguably a "public" forum, was not meant to be anything more than a communication between herself and the people on her friends list.

people here on the .org say MUCH worse things about prince on a daily basis than what she said on her facebook page, and i don't see them getting compared to darth vader. lol

Now, this is 1 of the reasons Y eye mistrust ppl so much. We have 2 classic cases of treason here. The 1st being Jill's [supposed] dissing of prince, Y bother making such a statement. U're entitled 2 say whatever u pls., however instead of concentrating on the negativity. Positivity Yes.
now the second testament is the worst
Betrayal from those u allow in ur innercircle. If u're suppose 2 b friends with Jill and if she indeed did make such an opinion8d statement. It was not 2 b publicly disclosed. eye think if she wanted the attn, she would have arranged interviews with publications like Rolling Stone, Spin, Entertainment Weekly, Blender, etc.
u asked me if eye heart u, it's automatic

i think it's a double edged sword. i think on the one hand, you have to be careful about what you post online, even if there's an understanding that it's just between you and the people in your circle. on the other hand, if people want you to communicate openly, then they need to respect the context in which you're communicating. i guess it goes both ways to some extent.

Hmmm.....

She is entitled to her opinion, and it was awful for a "Facebook Friend" to leak that...

I like Jill.. I don't think that this one comment paints her as "pure evil".

She must hurt by the past. I understand (being hurt by someone who may be in control of your future [supposedly]). I hope that she heals. Just because someone is talented, successful, powerful, and even helps you in the beginning, they can turn on you at any moment (and that is all it takes).

SEVEN YEARS?? OMG! Seems like Prince was bitter as well. And for him to go through the whole "slave" era and wanting out of HIS contract with Warner Brothers... all the while holding Jill in a similiar restrictive contract.

I don't think many can really see Jill's point of view on how things went down.

If you really believe, BELIEVE that you are destined for sucess and your dreams to come true... then to have them slip away because of a control freak lover who disrespected you for years and years and you took it because you loved him and kept hoping he would grow up, change etc. Then it will be a bitter pill to swallow for years to come.

Jill has a family now and does not have a successful or lucrative career.

I imagine every time a Britney, Beyonce or Keisha Cole comes on the scene, Jill might compare her singing talents to them and think, "why not me??? oh yeah, that's right because of HIM." and when the kids want or need something that she can't afford, once again she is reminded of what could've been if only HE would have given her that shot that HE PROMISED SINCE THEY ENTERED A CONTRACT TOGETHER.

I would like to think that I would not be bitter after all these years... but who knows.
