The standouts (for me) are definitely "Another Boy", "Kept Woman" and "Something U Already Know".

The name Sade (in any way, shape, form or context) should've never never never never never never never never crossed his lips when he introduced her. Nothing, and I mean nothing (vibe, music, style, vocals) can even begin to fill any kind of Sade-void.

2nite had potential, too bad the lyrics make it so appropriate for a Kingdom Hall social. It sounds like a lesser version of Sheila's "Boy's Club".

Everytime is cornier than a turd after a 4th of July picnic.

yeahthat

Immersion was the only one I REALLY liked, as it is different from the usual female vocal fodder out there.. and reminded me of tracks he used on the ONA piano album... shrug

Erm I liked Elixer cause its a duet, The last one I remember was with Sheila Easton boxed
One minute they want peace……

Then do everything to make it go away. rolleyes

I do like it more than expected. Nice and smoothy for all quit moods (as said before). If it wasn't related i wouldn't have listen to it, but now it's nice.
Actually u should see it in perspective of the tree-pack. Lotus and MPLSound are def. good albums and this comes along. To me it shows that our little man is in a nice and rather high (quality wise) level. It's ok for a 50-year old to make this fine music!

no one will EVER REPLACE SADE OR HER BAND AKA SWEETBACK closest thing to come within a few feet was AYA mainly because SWEETBACK was involved not making her into Sade...but pushing her into chill/dance/underground category.

Back to Bria ...good job arrangement works with Clare perfectly. cool

I have to agree with this cool Maybe I'm just a sucker for violin string arrangements, but almost every song with Clare Fisher's signature touch on it I enjoy. Everytime may be a bit too sweet for some, but it's syrupy goodness to me! The more I listen to it, the more I love it lol To each is own.

ELIXER...anyone else think it's a pun of he lick's her?..."listen to the lyrics"...Prince is kinda showing his old raunchy side a little in this album...and it's far more believable, lyrically Prince has dumbed down his act so much lately he makes Rod Jane and Freddy look positively perverse razz

I totally agree with you!biggrin It's a lot better than I expected. I like almost all songs on it. 2nite reminds me of a Vanity6 song, though...and Elixer is beautiful but I'm not sure what to think about the lyrics...hmmm. I think Prince should really try something new to get kicks from instead of always sex...sex...sex...like scuba diving or something! Imagine what kind of songs would come out of that!!??? But I guess, he would just end up cuddeling with some mermaid there...as usual... lol

Thumbs up to Bria! wink

I haven't given it a thorough listen yet, but did have it on while doing other things yesterday. She does have a nice smooth voice and it wasn't as bad as I was expecting.

I don't think Prince meant that Bria could 'replace' Sade, but that he thinks it's a similar vibe and can [temporarily] fill the void. I'm sure Prince, as well as a lot of people, know there is no replacement for Sade.

I think "Home" should have been the first single. I like "everytime" but its too subtle to be the song hes introducing her to the world with.

I love Elixer too... great song!

I said the same thing. "Home" has a very "young" feeling to it and would fit in with the music Kanye and Lil' Wayne are doing. Not to mention Keri Hilson.

I wasn't blown away by Bria's album, but it is a decent and solid piece of work. I can see why he picked Everytime for a single. Like most of the songs on the album, the music and vocals sound like something Jennifer Lopez would have done.

At first I thought once I bought the album on Sunday, I was just going to use it as a coaster, but after hearing 2nite, I was blown away. IMHO, that could be a top 20 hit, if it was released.

I'll just be blunt::

This album is a heck of a lot better than the critics are making it out to be. There is some absolutely BEAUTIFUL moments on this CD..

Yes, Bria herself might be a touch generic. However, the MUSIC itself is fantastic. Maybe I'm bias, because I love orchestras, symphonies, and artists like Diana Krall..

Regardless, I dig most of the songs here. Just gorgeous. smile

i think the music shows a very mature side of prince as a songwriter and producer. on these levels, i really like this album. there are a lot of things going on here, and it's all very smooth and pleasant.

as for bria? her presence is all but irrelevant here. someone had to sing the songs, it had to be a woman, and clearly bria was the purple paisley bond girl du jour. her voice isn't awful. it's not great, either. for me appreciating prince's work on this album, her voice didn't get in the way at all.

think of this album like watching a david lynch or woody allen movie. it doesn't really matter who is the star of the movie, because when lynch or allen direct a movie, you pretty much know what you're in for, and if you like that kind of thing, you're watching the movie for the director, not so much for the actors. that's what's going on here. this album has bria's name on it, but it is 100% a prince vehicle. and it's a good one. i'd even venture to say he's sneaking a bit of creative evolution into this album, just to test the waters and see how we respond.

I can't bring myself to listen to it. I previewed about 20 seconds of each song, but it's simply not my cup of tea. I'd probably say it's competent but boring. I'm sure someone loves it. I don't want to listen to it.

I shall not be downloading this release. I will pretend it never happened. She is hot and has a nice voice - but she may have been better off trying out for American Idol. More people would know who she was. But how cool would it be if you were dating Prince and he produced an album for you and then released it along with his album? Dude scored some points with her there for sure.

DigMeNow

I decided to listen to this album first. I guess because I had no idea what was in store and I was curious. I was pleasantly surprised by the album. Bria has a lovely voice and accompanied by Princes' piano on Immersion is reminiscent of some of the songs on his One Nite Alone cd.

I enjoyed all of this cd which was a great surprise to me. For instance I love Gwen Stefani but her cd, "The Sweet Escape" really left me flat. I listened to it once or twice and haven't picked it up again. I know this cd will get a lot of play when I want to relax and just chill.

This is a very good debut album; it's a combination of jazzy, sexy, smooth tracks. And then there is the little dance gem 2Nite that got me up and dancing. dancing jig

My favorite songs are: Here Eye Come, All This Love, 2Nite, and Elixer.

star star star

Now I need to listen to MplSound and Lotusflow3r.

I'm totally addicted to the first two tracks. The rest of the album has some nice stuff as well, glad it didn't turn out to be a disaster many predicted. Her voice does remind me of Janet's though.

Really?

I listened to about 20-30 seconds of each song on the Bria album and it sounds like smooth jazz adult contemporary R&B to me - pretty much the epitome of music I hate. Nothing against the people who like that, different strokes and all. Just not my thing.

Am I wrong, though? Is there something else there?
