No, she's not American Indian that's for sure. Her name is Bria Valente

lol Firstly, Bria Valente is a stage name. I think her real name is Brenda Fuentes. Secondly, a non-Native American sounding name does not preclude having Native American ancestry. EG. her maternal grandmother or mother could have been Native American and taken a husband's last name.

If that is true, then one of her native ancestors are the Arawaks. Interesting.

I'm curious to ask why the question was posed about her ancestry.

In the big scheme of life issues, do people still pay attention to this sort of stuff in the fluff world of pop?

Although it's no big secret that Prince long has a history of creating exotoc ( ie. fictional) ethnic backrounds for his proteges, I find it interesting that still, in 2009, we are looking at that qualifier of some sort... pc

I don't think there's any chance that they meant native american or american indian when they said "indian" they are just not referred to as indians anymore...not on TV anyway. So perhaps she's bolivian indian...LOL! I never heard that term before.

Based on the fact that he sings about a Mexican woman on the track "Valentina," the traditional Mexican music sound that seems to have inspired 77 Beverly Park, and her features, I would assume that she is Mexican, but who cares. She's really not interesting enough to ponder it for too long. That said, I wish her luck, she'll need it if she expects Elixer or Prince to be her pathway to a lasting music career.

Actually in a report last month posted here from an article, the track "Valentina" is referencing Salma Hayek's daughter, and he refers to "Salma" (as the Mexican beauty) throughout the track.

Bria is short for Briagandesh Anurama Nagoondasunbas.

She changed her name to Valenta so she could take the world by storm with a hot album.

Why does she have to be ashy and baldheaded?! Non-black people are not the only people who have hair.

Yeah, I found that description offensive too. What is with the wild and naked crap as well? Why does that have to represent black women? It is so extreme.

Oh well, maybe thinking like that is what keeps black men like Prince so fascinated with non-black women or only black women who are mixed. There are beautiful black women of different hues, hair lengths and textures. It's too bad that for some the image of black women is what Dolphinking described.

We all know P has been (or is) with black women (whatever that really is).
I hardly think P has a problem with color. But he himself isn't very dark skinned and it looks like he often chooses women that more or less resemble him. Plus we've all got a specific taste. Some are not attracted to blondes, some don't like redheads (how often don't I hear "too bad he/she's got red hair")... And don't we say that opposites attract?

Anybody could be ashy...believe me I've see it! rolleyes lol

I just hate it when people talk about lighter skin or white skin they associate them with pretty eyes and "good hair" {whatever the hell that's supposed to mean} but when it comes to the darker complexion women they have to be associated with Ethiopia, ashy, nappyheaded {or baldheaded}, and in the African jungle with bones through their noses....fuck outta here!

To answer your question, YES people do pay attention to this type of stuff, especially Prince. If you look at his videos, the women are always very light complected, long-haired and racially ambiguous. In the videos of many African American hip hop and R & B artists, the same holds true for who they choose to portray as their love interests. Very seldom do you see brown or dark skinned African American women as their love interests. Many of these guys in reality choose to date/marry women who look like the Prince "prototypes" as well. We all have preferences but it says a lot when you consistently exclude women based on their skin color and you devalue their beauty as a result of it. Very sad in 2009 that the color complex still stalks the minds of several people.

As much as I love Prince I'm gonna have to co-sign this. There is nothing wrong with having a preference, I have preferences but going out of your way to make sure you get someone that looks like this or that specifically is kind of silly to me. You'll miss out on meeting a lot of good people that way I don't care who you are and wherre you come from...that includes Prince. I'm not a picky person and if someone comes along that has a beautiful personality and sweeps me off of my feet then i'm going to let them whether I find them attractive or even if they are NOT the picture perfect magazine type. Think about it, all of the darker complexion women he was with wasn't flaunted like the lighter complexion of women. He didn't even have any darkskinned women in his videos except for "BlackSweat" {I wonder why} hmph! neutral

This is SOOOOO TRUE. To this day, casual fans STILL can't believe he dated Nona Gaye. Outside of them being in the Love Sign video together, I didn't even know they dated until she was interviewed and admitted herself years later in an issue of Essence magazine. Prince always makes references to mulatto, mixed race or Latina women in his songs, so it's pretty obvious what his preference is.

Just barely, but we're talking about dark brown and dark dark skinned sistas, which he shows no love for unless it's unfavorably i.e. the "Black Sweat" video. I mean even the new video for "Chocolate Box" didn't have a Black chick in it. Come on Prince!
