Vanity's career after Action Jackson???? Hey there For all the Vanity experts here, I was wondering, does anyone know what happened to Vanity's career from the time she did Action Jackson to when she left the business? I know that from 1989 to 1993 she did only tv guest appearances and straight-to-video movies.
I'm wondering why? I recently read an article from 1988, as well as watched a portion of her 1988 Playboy interview, and it seemed her career was really taking off. She got good reviews for Action Jackson, and her playboy appearance was widely publicized. Apparently she had a deal to make 3 more feature films, was in talks to star in a tv show in which she would play a reporter, and of course was working with Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis and Tony Lemans on her 3rd solo album. The feature films, the tv show and her 3rd solo album all never came to be. What happened? How could someone go from having all these big projects in the works to being reduced to guest appearances and straight-to-video gigs?

Yeah, she was doing very well in 1988.She was getting alot of mainstream attention, even appeared on the cover of Playboy
and as you pointed out,she got good reviews in the hit movie 'Action Jackson'.It seemed like she had finally established herself as a big star in her own right.Unfortunately, her career slowed down after that, due to drugs It's a shame.Who knows where her career might have headed if she had not self-destructed after 1988?

Yeah,in 1988 she signed to A&M Records and was immediately paired with producers Jam and Lewis.Tony LeMans was also planning to produce a few tracks (he was dating Vanity's sister at the time). The album was never finished, but the working title was 'Cherry Bomb' and it was due to be released in late '88.It was even rumored that Prince would be contributing a few tracks as well.Without question, this might have been her biggest album yet! The two tracks that she recorded for 'Action Jackson' ("Undress" and "Faraway Eyes") showed alot of improvement in her vocals. For the first time, she was actually attempting to sing and not just moaning, squealing and talking her way through the songs.

Just in case no one has visited. The website is pretty cool even tho it needs to be updated with regard to her video clips and book release date (if it ever comes). she did a lot of TV, mostly single episode appearances on short lived series like Tales from the Crypt, Friday the 13th, Miami Vice and Booker. she made movies such as Deadly Illusion, 52 pick up and Never to Young To Die. The Last Dragon is what garnered her noteriety aside from being Prince's Vanity. The Drugs definitely ruined her film career. I think she would have been the new Rae Dawn Chong.

I'm not sure how much it's going for now but I got it on ebay about 10 years ago dirt cheap. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

Her TV/Movie career had ended by the mid 90's. After that she turned her back on showbiz and turned to religion. Since Action Jackson Vanity did TV movie Memories of Murder, Jackie Collins LadyBoss, Neon City and appeared in TV series HighLander amongst other things.
