So is there any word on the new Time album?

I thought Jimmy said it was gonna drop early 2009. Well, it's nearly April and there's still no sign. What's goin on?

Didn't someone on this board about a couple of weeks ago say that there's a slight battle going on between Prince and them about the name? He may have been cool about them using it for the reunion gigs but maybe not for releasing new music. I don't know. If this is the case, fuck a Prince!! mad

yeah - he's super dick on many issues these days. Including the Time name. Maybe is he put all this pettiness behind he could focus on some decent music. Wait- I seem to have said that a few years ago too. I guess things never change in somebody's world. Maybe he should ask "Wendy and Lisa" to not use their names in that combination anymore. Maybe one day he'll get over himselves.

I've never really understood the attraction with The Time. To me their stuff is boring @ best and desperately uninteresting @ worst. bored2

I'm certainly not posting this to be inflammatory, I've just never really got them. Particularly Morris. Is he meant to be funny?? Is that it?? hmm

The biggest compliment I've ever paid them was along the lines of "..Gee, I wish Prince had kept that for himself." disbelief

To each their own i guess. So basically you're saying that in your opinion Prince failed to succeed performing and producing most of the work as bland on especially the first 2 Time-albums ?
The biggest compliment which Prince ever gave the Time was during the 1983 Tour, when he admitted that they were the only challenge to perform against. Words which i take in high regard.

I guess I am. I just listen to the equivalent Prince album(s) (i.e year wise) and The Time sound mediocre at best. Maybe Prince had some crap to get out of his system, I don't know.

But it's not just about the albums, it's live too. I find the them nothing short of embarrassing. The Bird thing just makes me want to cringe.

I'm absolutely not having a go @ anyone here who likes them. Like you said, to each their own. Maybe I'm the only one?

Okay, i can understand that it's not your cup of tea, but imo it can't be denied that their instrumental-skills live are on a quality level, whether one digs it or not.
Too bad that the 1983 Tour was never filmed for an official video-release. That was the pre-Bird era where they were in their prime, and which not many fans of later generations might have ever witnessed because videos of that collabo-tour occasionally popped up the surface as non-professional filmed footage.
Morris explained once around the start of his solo-career that actually the band-spirit was already gone during their third album. I think even during that 1983-Tour there was a convo between them where Morris told the band that it apparently wasn't gonna last.

Great musicianship does not necessarily imply great music, and frequently doesn't.

SOME THINGS NEVER CHANGE.....
WELL, FROM WHERE I'M SITTING THEY COULD DO ONE OF TWO THINGS:
1)RELEASE IT AS "FLYTE TYME", THE NAME THEY HAD B4 PRINCE CREATED
THE "MUSICAL FRANKENSTEIN". OR:
2)PUT IN A CALL 2 SUGE KNIGHT 4 SOME OF THAT WORK HE DID ON VANILLA ICE.
PRINCE HAS GOT TO BE THE ONLY MUTHAF***A ON THE PLANET THAT CAN'T KNOCK OUT
SUGE KNIGHT!!!!! LOL!!!!!

BUT SERIOUSLY, FOLKS- IF THIS REALLY IS THE CASE, DID U NOT SEE THIS COMING????
THE MAN IS ABOUT TO PUT OUT TWO CD'S, AND HE CANNOT BE UPSTAGED BY THEM AGAIN!!!! EVER!!!!!
I DON'T THINK THAT DONALD BYRD WOULD HAVE THAT MUCH OF A PROBLEM W/THAT!!!

There just comes a point in every thread conversation, like this one, when you can see the wheel turning round and round. We've reached that point. Anything we say from this point on will be just paraphrasing what we've already posted.

For example, your last post was something to the effect of "...great music is in the eye of the beholder". (Correct me if that wasn't your intended meaning.) Now of course that's true!! How could I possibly disagree with that! It just reaffirms that both our opinions are different, and that both of them are valid.

Nothing personal. smile

I didn't read anything here about that. I remember the Family thread, but not anything about Prince withholding the name "The Time". I actually remember reading the opposite.

That is an excuse. The name of the band is not relevant 2 releasing a new cd.
