I didn't meet Jesse that night, but I've met him quite a few times. Mostly, around this period of his life. I used to see him at Music Collector Conventions here in MPLS. He is a nut for Hendrix shows and was always looking for stuff...I took pics with him after his Mirage show out back as he was leaving in his red VW Jetta. He wasn't opening for anyone back then. He was playing club shows under the name The Jesse Johnson Band. I saw him at The Mirage, The Cabooze, and The 400 Bar back then. I wish he was still around sometime or another. To my knowledge, he hasn't played in the Twin Cities since those shows back in '94. It's a shame.

Thank you! Very nice. I'd seen so many crappy bands at the Mirage as it was one of my favorite watering holes, drink beer and make fun of the big hair. I wish I would have seen Jesse, dude was cool. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Jesse's one of many who should be on Guitar Player as much as the ususal suspects, but real music never dies if we die hards have anything 2 do with it....

Well, I don't know whatever happened to Jesse's new album that he was talking about like 2 years ago, but I have a feeling we'll never see anything from him again. It's been what? Damn near 15 years since Bare My Naked Soul...I was thinking the new Time project was holding him back, but I talked to Jellybean the other day, and whatever they're trying to put together, Prince is fighting them on. Apparently, it's another legal fight with rights to the name The Time. Why's P gotta be such a sucka all the time? I thought his fight was for REAL music...he's holding back one of the best bands of all time from putting out fresh, new material. What a shame.

On one hand, I can very well see Prince's point on wanting full control of the name "The Time". It's P's project, legacy, part of his income and reflects on him in the end. On the other hand, I would think that a compromise between the two entities could surely be met. The players in The Time have worked their asses off over the years to make it one of the best live R&B acts of the last century, without Prince's involvement. I was really hoping for that solo Jesse project, too. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.
