tamar's album vs bria's

i was listening 2 tamar's album last night and then thought about the songs that have been released by bria and it hit me. prince has always tried 2 incorporate his latest sound along with his protege's and these ladies r no different.

when listening 2 the musical intrumentation of tamar's album, the drums sound like how some of 3121 is. now prince is back in2 the linn drum sound and bria's songs reflect this. and i think that's a shame really 4 bria. there r parts of another boy that sound so "empty" where when listening 2 tamar's album is sounds "alive".

does anyone else feel that?
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I can't say I've heard a lot of Bria, but Tamar's album does seem stronger. I think her vocals are stronger than Bria's anyway. She has more of an almost "lite pop" feel to her msuic, maybe it's meant to be more mellow tho' since he had the nerve to compare her to Sade. no no no!

tamar's cd is waaaaay better than i thought it would be. there's a lot of really strong cuts on there. "kept woman", "milk n honey", "sunday in the park", "all i want is u"....

and my personal fave is "closer 2 my heart." i cant think of a time in recent history when prince funk was that nasty. that bassline sounds like it has diarrhea. it straight up needs a diaper or something. in a good way.

I really was not impressed by the Tamar album. I just did not get all the hype about her. When I saw the live show in Chicago, I wasn't blown away by her at all. I heard the entire Milk & Honey album, and the only track I really liked and downloaded was "Kept Woman." The instrumentation on that song is very good and I dig the vibe. "Redhead Stepchild" was much better live than recorded, but it was ok. However, overall, the sound of Tamar's vocals and the other tracks was pretty dated to me. It sounded like something that might have been produced 10 or 15 years ago. I could not see it making an impact beyond the Prince completists who might have bought it. The sad thing is that the post-Prince stuff that I heard from her was even worse.

I hope she gets it together and is able to make something out of her career. I know that she was in a Tyler Perry play, so maybe theatre is the next step for her.

really? do u know what play she's in?

and if that's true, not saying it's not, it would mark the 2nd time a "protege" has been featured in a tyler perry play cause marva king was in diary of a black woman

It's true. Here is an article about it. Also, there is a DVD on Amazon.com for it. I am not sure if that is Tamar on the cover with a wig on. You're right. I forgot about Marva King being in one of his plays too.

"The Marriage Counselor" depicts different segments that identify the quality of marriage. Roger Jackson (Tony Grant), and his wife Judith (Tamar Davis) would appear to have the perfect marriage. Roger's father, Floyd (Palmer Williams, Jr.) and Judith's mom, T.T. (Altrinna Grayson) are temporary house guests post Katrina. Judith, the professional Ivy League-educated marriage counselor, gives marital advice to couples who are confused and bewildered. However, what about her own marriage? Who can counsel the counselor when she turns to a certain college friend? The surprise elements of this adult-themed production is unpredictable and enjoyable.
