VANITY.......... I have previously read an extract from Denise Matthew’s interview.
“I think it's important to understand the title of my book. In the beginning I was planning on naming it Blame It On Vanity. . . Denise, but I wanted to separate myself from the sinful name that made me famous. Vanity means worthlessness, and that's the last thing I want to be known for. And I'm not worthless anymore. My name is Denise." In my opinion, I will always remember Vanity for her presence in movies and music. I respect her greatly as a person. However, my memories will always be associated with Vanity. I respect Vanity and think that she is a great person with a sophisticated personality. I CANNOT completely eliminate the name Vanity from my memories. Vanity was very unique and had a smile that could light up a room. I understand that the preacher Denise Matthews wants to blame Vanity for all her sins in life. However, Denise had previously desired to enter into an entertainment and celebrity type lifestyle. After all, she was involved in modelling and had chosen to follow careers in acting and music. In actuality, her career aspirations were being fulfilled at the early stages of her career. However, it could be argued that the ‘pressures of showbiz’ had been a contributing cause towards the downward spiral of her career in the entertainment industry. These pressures are heavily evident towards her drug addiction habit for nearly a decade in her career. In her 20’s, Vanity was having steady success in movies and music. She was gaining recognition in the media as an up and coming celebrity. However, the pressures of stardom were not handled adequately. She was turning to drugs as a type of escape from her problems. She abused drugs in an excuse to deal with her problems. It could be argued that Vanity is a victim of her own circumstances. After all, Vanity had chosen to take and become a heavy addict of drugs. She never had any close friend that really cared for her. A close friend or relative should have attempted to intervene and stop this unhealthy habit of Vanity’s drug abuse. In her late 20’s, help should have been given towards Vanity’s drug addiction problem. Possibly drug rehab might have solved the problem. Drug Rehabilitation could have saved Vanity’s entertainment career. I mean hopefully, Vanity would have been involved in more mature and sophisticated roles in movies and television. Anyways, fans will always remember Denise Matthews from her Vanity character in movies and music. In reality, Vanity will truly be an icon and legend that I will forever cherish in my memories.

This was a good and fair post. We will all remember Vanity because that's where she had her fame, her musical and acting career was tied to that name. I agree with you, Vanity didn't seem to have any real strong family ties, or people that cared enough to drag her to rehab to get help. She didn't have proper guidance, and was in a totally different head space then where she is today. I don't blame her, she's been redeemed and no longer lives a filthy and promiscuous lifestyle. I think it's a part of her past that she really regrets and hates, but she needs to remember that regardless of what people think or remember the past does not make the whole of a person. We all change and evolve through the years and everyone deserves 2nd chances, everyone deserves the right to be viewed in a respectful manner. I personally love the new woman that she is today. I love what she stands for, and I love how she's trying to be a very positive role model for young girls today. I think if Vanity would have had good guidance, direction and support she would have flourished and would have been a very well respected actress and singer today.

I don't know...I like Vanity's music, movie and her style but I read book by Nikki Sixx and in this book is Vanity like a fool. I don't know but after reading I feel very bad....she wasn't happy and she wasn't good human. I'm happy that "Vanity is dead" and Denise is here. If U're lookin' 4 somebody, who'll turn your bad day into one long night of fun, look no further

DAMMIT IT WAS HER LIFE AND SHE SHOULD BE ABLE TO TALK ABOUT EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE THAT IMPACTED IT. IF THE COPIES ARE READY TO GO (PICS INCLUDED) THEN BRING ON THE BOOK. FUCK NIKI SIX FOR TAKING HER DRUG PROBLEM TO A NEW LEVEL THEN DUMPING HER. FUCK HER BALLER HUSBAND FOR CHEATING ON HER AND NOT BEING A CHRISTIAN HUSBAND AND ACTUALLY FUCK PRINCE FOR NOT BEING FAITHFUL TO HER AND PAYING HER RIGHT WHEN SHE HEADLINED V6. Many people have put out biographies and didn't need approval. Afterall, it is her own account of her life, how she sees it. No one can argue with that. They can deny it, But it's her account of her life. So it is very doubtful that she is being held up legally with stuff. Look at Nikki Sixx. He said some crazy stuff in his book that even his band questioned, but it didn't stop the book being published & remaining on the New York Times Bestseller's list for months.
P can take a long hike! All he can do is deny or question her recollection. But honestly, he doesn't have a hope in hell if he wants to stop it being published. Freedom of speech goes a long way. All he can say is that he disagrees with something. That it. She is hardly going to make up a bunch of crap to publish about him. But, I am seriously doubting some things about Denise at the moment. It's just too much of a con-artist kinda thing going on now with this book. People have actually sent money in. Now she is saying no refunds & they may not see a book for months. That is false advertising. And you are paying for goods you have not received. At least offer something. And why the whole 'Pre-Order' thing. Why do you need to have the money first before publishing. I don't know much about self-publishing, but come on. I'm guessing you have to have some kinda money to do it. But damn! That puts the whole future of the book in how many pre-orders she receives. Thats no way to publish a book. Also, she might be sick, and God help her because she will need God's help with that. But saying that the book is delayed for another 4 months because of illness? And all this,' God Bless and keep you from evil' stuff. Lord I hope I'm wrong about all this. But I hope she's not using the promise of a book to gain money from the public. She's done this twice now. And people keep falling for it. What is she doing with the money that people sent in? Denise, this does NOT look good girl. And haters, I'm only saying what you are already thinking. Genius is born, not made. Prince is a Genius. No question. RIP Legend.

It is long overdue and way to expensive. I'm not buying a book for 200.00. If she needs donations that's one thing, but a book does NOt cost 200.00. That is the price of a Concert ticket to see PRINCE and she's NOT PRINCE. She needs to charge the Appropriate fee.

I just wish the labels would re-release on CD or MP3 the Vanity 6 album with all of the remixes, all of her solo albums/singles/remixes and the never released album produced by Jam and Lewis in the late 80s. [Edited 2/26/09 15:59pm] ~And even when I'm right, I'll be wrong...it's Automatic too.

MrGee, everyone has their lives to live. You are so hyper critical and judgemental about her! She has changed and we all go through ups and downs in life. We don't always make the right and correct decisions everytime. Why would you want to be her, or anyone else for that matter? Be comfortable and happy with who you are. Sure, Vanity's past isn't the greatest, but we all have a right to be respected. She's moved on..... why can't U?

I agree with you there. I still listen to the Vanity 6 album and I don't blame anything on Vanity. Sure Denise does, but she has the right to do it. Sometime ago, on her website, I read she burned and destroyed everything concerning Vanity, just to break all liasons she had with her former self. Now I don't think that's a clever thing to do. Or something a clever person would do. Vanity was and I bet my ass still is part of what she is. Vanity will always be inside of her, despite what she says. Without Vanity, Denise would not be here. And of course we'll always remember good old Vanity, because of the strong and breaking through image she got back then. There are millions of preachers in the US (I guess) but there was only one Vanity. [Edited 3/13/09 7:04am]
