Morris Day and the Time 12-31-08 concert review I went and saw the Time at the Imperial Palace Casino in Biloxi, Ms on December 31, 2008. This was my 13th show this year and my 49th overall.
Jason, Ashley and Lindsay joined me for this occasion. The drive was fairly uneventful and we got to our hotel in a little less than 2 hours. We got checked in and headed over to the casino to meet up with the fellas. Almost as soon as we went into the casino, we ran into some of the fellas. We hung around and gradually greeted and chatted with most of the band. We hung out in the Lobby awhile and then decided it was time to go eat and get ready for the show. So we ended up at the awful waffle which is normally a post concert meal. We got the worst waitress ever. Nice. We then went back to the hotel, chilled out for awhile and then got ready for the show. Since it was New years and the Time we decided to get dressed up. Jason and I were sporting baggies and skinny ties and I unpacked the Stacy Adams for just this occasion. The Girls were both looking sexy in short black dresses. We headed back to the casino and picked up our tickets. 9th row, dead center. First row off the floor so we had a great view. We ended up going back stage and hanging out with other friends and family of the band. It was very cool to catch up with the fellas. My man Arlington(who goes to every Louisiana show) actually ventured out of the state for once so it was cool to see him. Next was the pre concert prayer and then it was show time. We headed out to our seats just minutes before the band hit the stage. Here is the line up Morris Day-Vocals and Cool Jellybean Johnson-Drums Monte Moir-Keyboards Tori "Freak Juice" Ruffin-Guitar Ricky "Freeze" Smith-Bass Jeff McNeely-Keyboards Silvester Donald-valet and dancer Here is the set list with my comments to follow. 1. DAT Intro 2. Skillet 3. Cool 4. Get it up 5. Pandemonium 6. Chocolate 7. Wild and Loose 8. The Stick 9. Blondie 10. My Drawers 11. Fishnet 12. The Oak Tree 13. Jerk Out 14. 777-9311 15. Girl- short instrumental 16. Sometimes I get lonely- one verse by Morris off stage 17. Gigolos get lonely too 18. If the Kid can't make you come 19. Ice Cream Castles 20. The Walk 21 The Bird Encore 22. Jungle Love The show was 93 minutes long. The showroom was packed and the crowd was really into the show. The sound was absolutely fantastic. The intro was slightly different with the insertion of dialogue from Purple Rain into the normal mix of song samples. The musical highlight for me was Blondie/My Drawers. I love it when we get the rock. Tori was also rippin' that shit up on 777-9311 with a nice solo after the fake pause. Let's just say the lady that got on stage for Kid was really into it tonight. As the Walk ended, I decided I was going to get on stage for The Bird and made my way to the side of the stage. Now I've been up there several times before and I've turned them down even more. I don't know what came over me if it was just because it was new year's eve or the excessive alcohol consumption, but what the hell. So of course the fellas are cracking up when the unfunky white boy takes the stage. I kinda hid in the back until Morris goes into the white folks line, but then I get up right next to him and do the stereotypical stiff white boy dance before embracing my true Bird. Back to the back and after the Chili Sause I took my ass off the stage. Jason got it on video so get ready to laugh you ass off when it shows up on Youtube. The band left the stage, but then came back for the encore. It was almost midnight so we had a count down for the last few minutes to ring in the new year. The show of course ended with Jungle Love and we made our way back stage as the band played the last few notes. We ended up hanging out backstage for a long time. A very Cool time indeed.Props to my man Jaybee for taking care of us and to the fellas, especially Monte and Jellybean who went out of their way to make our trip a blast. Here's hoping I hit the big 50 in the near future

Did you see my hunny Arlington there? He was there too...I told him to tell them that their step-child said hi! I used to be their God-child lol... I prolly won't see them for a very long time. I think the next time they'll be around is for the Cajun Heartland State Fair and I will not be there b/c I would be either just finish having a baby or ready to bust anytime. Um... let me warm up my vocals

Why so many shows? Well obviously they are my favorite band and I have so much fun I go almost every chance I get. That and the guys are just so Cool to hang out with. Now there are other bands I go see and a handful that are in the double digits, but its not the total experience that a Time show is

As for the Vegas shows that are advertised as the original line-up you can see how he has to be there for it work... www.myspace.com/derranday Check it out!
