Sounds pretty mature for a 19 year old, but good. His eyes sort of remind me of Prince.

My initial instinct is to ask, "why is this kid still not signed?" But on second thought I could easily guess why. I'd imagine that his Dad wouldn't want him to get screwed by the same corp-execs that others have gotten the shaft by, and therefore taught him better...
That said, I go back to the first question: WHY IS THIS KID STILL NOT SIGNED? (MPLS sound meets neo-soul), plus when he goes to his tenor register, I can hear his father. Nice!

322Ci, are you Derran's brother for real?
ArielB said: 323Ci said: Just another note, these songs are not studio quality, most of what you are hearing was produced using reason and garage band and the vocals were sang directly into a macbook pro using the built in microphone, and recorded in a dorm room. So it is not professionally produced or mixed or anything of that nature. Just something else to take into consideration before things get said like too much auto tune and "how do you know if he can sing" etc. etc.
For a built in mic, this sounds really good. Best of luck to your brother, and yourself

Actually, I have to take issue with the "garage band/not professionally recorded" remark. I use garageband to make my music, and find that it works virtually identical. But I'm willing to be educated - if you've been in an actual recording studio and thus know better, I'd be willing to consider what you said.

[Edited 12/14/08 22:24pm] As for your comment on professional recording. I meant that the tracks have not been "professionally mixed," and the vocals are not done in a booth with a high quality microphone. Instead vocals were done in a dorm room, (which could replicate a sound booth for all i know, i am no acoustics specialist or anything) using the internal microphone on the macbook pro. www.myspace.com/derranday Check it out!

He is just dad in the home setting and the character everyone else knows him as only comes out for the hour to hour and a half when he's performing. Aside from that he's a normal dad, real, and down to earth. www.myspace.com/derranday Check it out!

Is there any way to buy his music?
There are a couple of songs I really like. I wish he would get signed to a label so that he can get his music out. I am an old head (older than 40) and I like his style. Much more mature sound than I would expect from a 19 year. And he is such a cutie! I expect him to do well in his career. "Remember, one man's filler is another man's killer" -- Haystack

Hopefully sometime soon he will be able to get some time in a real studio to make studio quality versions of the songs he has done so far. Once that gets taken care of i'm sure he might be interested in selling his music. Right now he thinks the audio quality is too bad to sell the songs to anyone... www.myspace.com/derranday Check it out!

Haha I am sure he isn't trying to distance himself from our dad, but he is definitely interested in paving his own way. I also know that he isn't quite ready yet, which is why he hasn't tried to get a record deal, or anything of that nature. He is doing all of this for fun, but I am sure that after he finishes school he will have a different and probably more professional outlook on what he is trying to accomplish with his music. He is just writing as much and as often as he can, because as we all know practice makes perfect, so he is constantly trying new styles and different techniques to figure out what works best for him. Unfortunately myspace only lets you upload 6 songs at a time so it is difficult to showcase all your work while simultaneously leaving songs up that people really enjoy listening to. Maybe a website would be the next step, but he'll have to get his ass in the studio and redo those songs so he could at least make a couple of bucks off itunes or something...
