Jill Jones's All Day...All Night

I remember in 1987 buying this album, the first week it came out and listening to it. I had been anticipating the album for quite awhile. After getting through side 1 of the LP, I was already impressed. But I wasn't prepared for Side 2. "All Day All Night" blew my mind. I remember turning up the volume full blast for maximum impact. That song was jamming so hard. It surely had that 1999-"All The Critics Love U In New York" era type of vibe. It immediately became a Paisley Park favorite of mine on my turntable and tape deck. I was hoping she'd do a video for the track. LIL MAN and Jill had it going on with one. A groove that makes you wanna move...Anybody else love this track?

Make me say..."ooo shock-a-loka"...(LOL)!!!

G-Spot is the song that Madonna never had and My Man is a perfect pop tune

A very good album. Could have been a GREAT album if she had just not screamed so much. There is definitely some great songwriting and production on it.

And it's a song Prince could reclaim and perform in concert to some effect, I think

I agree.Jill is a great vocalist but on several songs, she does too much screaming and too many Prince-inspired yelps (especially near the end of "For Love").

Liked the Album more so at the time.most of it was in the Can from back in late 82-83.you can tell.considering the stuff that Came out of Paisley Park over the years I rank it near the top of releases on that Label."All Day,All Night" was cool for 87 but 15 years later Prince should have put that out on a B-Side for the 1999 Project or Purple Rain Project IMHO."Violet Blue" was Cut.

All Day, All Night is a great cut, though the faster, wilder Prince & the Revolution version benefits from the added energy. Let's face it: Prince circa 1983-1988 was the Golden Era, and Jill Jones' album goes down as legend. Mia Bocca and G-Spot (the Prince version of which is also a bit better) are the two other crown jewels of that album. *Sigh* ...it just takes me back.

I'm completely in the dark about Jill Jones. The only song I ever heard from her is Mia Bocca, which I thought was utter shit.

I LOVE, heart , love Prince's version of All Day, All Night - that's one of my favorite unreleased songs EVER. But will I like her version just b/c I like his?? Be honest!
heart prince I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it prince heart

My guess is you'll hate it... especially if you disliked Mia Bocca, Cal. It's considerably less vigorous, some of the ad lib is gone, and Jill's version comes off as generally far more rehearsed than organic. I personally can tolerate it, but it sounds like you won't. lol

Hi
Can someone PLEASE send me the lyrics to this song and Mia Bocca?
I don't have the album so I can't just read the lyrics-assuming they came with it,I have a dubbed cassette.
Anyway, when I sing along,I wanna make sure I'm singing the right words, and on some parts I'm not completely sure what she's saying,so your help would be appreciated.

thanks

I understand that. But,I just feel that Jill's album is a little TOO Prince-inspired.There are some great songs on it,but Jill never really gets the chance to be herself. Her vocals on several songs are too frantic, too urgent and too "Princely".To balance it out,her album needed a few NON-Prince ballads, with restrained vocals for once.

Pagey

Violet Blue, For Love, Baby You're a Trip, are the best tracks on the album imo.

I am not crazy over All Day, All Night. I heard her version WAY before Prince's and was never a fan of the tune. JJ's version sounds plastic to me. Then I heard his version and it is so much better it's not even funny. It could've been a big hit for him. He DEFINITELY should have kept it for himself.

...and I agree she screeches way too much on the album...it's the biggest flaw on there.

It's not a bad album but not the best Paisley release. I think The Family, Madhouse, and Sheila E's 3rd album are all way better than Jill's.

Thanks for responding smile I figured I'd hate hers since I'm in love with his, I don't wanna bother tracking it down for nothing... biggrin

Like I said she worked with prince, you know how controlling he is. Prince really doesn't give his proteges the chance to be who they are and do what they want, he molds them out of his own image. From the way they sound, to the way they dress.
