Jesse Johnson's Revue- "Do Yourself A Favor"

I really love this song. One of my favorite J.J. pieces. I like the first verse when he says..."If you see me walking down the street one day...don't say nothing to me...no baby...cause you did me wrong". I like this line because he conveys such bitterness. Then I like when he says that he's freer than a butterfly. The music and lyrics are very catchy.

This song used to kick hard back in 86.

You know, I wrote a song that sounded somewhat like this song's melody. & THEN, I heard this song and had to go back to the drawing board with my music. That sucks.

This album rocked as well as Jill's...It was at one of shows that I recieved my pristine copy of The Black Album from someone in the Prince camp at that time...And Jesse's Free World still slams on the stereo pumped 2 the max...

Uh...

I think that its Prince playing The Linn Drum Machine, Keys, and Bass

He may be singing background too with Jessie...

I'm not sure when their disagreement started.. I think it was after this song was completed.

Ha! Jesse is great on this one. I like his "knack" of saying "baby" and "Waittaminit" frequently through his version..

I have Jesse Johnson's "Ultimate Collection." I wouldn't have bought it if it didn't have "Crazay" (featuring Sly Stone) on it. That's my favorite JJ joint!

Some Facts

1. Pepe Willie wrote the song.
2. Its on Shockadelica, not JJs revue album,
3. Prince covered it (unreleased, the same year)
4. Its on One man jam/94 east etc
5. Prince was scared of Jesse. Seems a bit funny that Jesse turns this cool stuff out and Prince "covers" it the same year and tries to give Jesse a title track (shockadelica) the same year! Running scared!

Prince covered "When you see me" in 82/83. He totally changed the song, making it a much greater song, imo. Later (1986), Jesse Johnson released it on his album.
Looks like it that Jesse knew Prince's version and recorded it. It's very similar. Maybe Prince gave him the song, I don't know...
In other words, I think that it wasn't Prince who 'covered' a Jesse song, but more the other way around. wink

Happy holiday,
TheKid

P.S. Great song btw (but I think Prince's version is better)
