Vanity is more well known than I thought

For some reason her name has been brought up alot around me.
Like last night my dads friends were talking about girls from the 80's
and how Vanity was so fine.And they all knew who she was.I didnt know my dad knew about them because he was like 12 at the height of their career.
I told him how she emailed me about her book.And today on one on one,flex was talking about how he had a huge poster of vanity on his wall.Was she a big deal back then?

Shw was an icon in the black community back then. She did a lot of award and tribute shows. She had magazine covers. She had a higher public profile after Vanity 6 than she did when she was with Prince.
