Anyone remember....

that group Ready For The World? I read that they were one of Prince's projects. Is this true? I remember hearing them sing Oh Sheila, and at first thinking it was Prince, but that was when I was first becoming a fan of his music so i did'nt know any better. lol

So were they one of his projects?

Prince had nothing to do with Ready for the World (except influence them musically and visually). They were not one of his side projects and he never wrote any material for them, nor produced them, nor played any instruments on any of their songs.

In fact I heard an interview with Sheila E. on local radio here in the SF Bay Area where she said that the first time she and Prince heard the song "Oh, Sheila" they were in a limousine and she looked at him and asked him when did he do that song. Prince just turned to her and said he didn't.

There weren't a Prince project at all and had no affiliation with Prince whatsoever. Prince was just obviously a major influence in their music, that's all.

Actually
I thought it was a Prince song at first also. Then when I saw the video's of those greasy boys with their scary curls... Uhg!! I disliked them even more. I mean he tried to talk like Prince, sing like Prince, even had certain facial expressions to mimic Prince.

They had no shame. But hey they got a hit out of imitating him.

But, after looking at the fine men of Prince and the Revolution... RFTW ill

Oh yeah, I remember it used to play on BET. They were wearing those white tuxedo shirts with the collars turned up and the skinny ties. Straight out of the 80s.
Melvin (I think that was his name) had a scary curl that was big and long... similiar to Prince's PR days. And his swagger, even the looks he gave to the camera... you know the looks Prince would do and then purse his lips? Well Melvin did that as well.

And some faces were shiny maybe from sweat... but we all used to joke it was from curl activator "juice". evillol

I watched the video, and could'nt really tell where he was mimicking Prince,I think I probably thought it was him because of the similar grunts or pants that P use to do in his songs.
