yes, considering that "Jungle Love" and "Sex Shooter" were both Top 10 Hits, it's a good bet "Modernaire" would have been too

Had This one 4 a while now. One of the best songs on the movie! everybody I knew back then looked 4 this cut but couldn't find it cause it didn't release back then. A shame 2, cause it was way better than Dance Electric! That my opinion!

I have ALWAYS wanted this song!! I think it's great. I also think it would have been a hit in '84.
Glad to finally have it. It always eluded me even in boot form... until now

Glad to finally have it. It always eluded me even in boot form... until now Hopefully Prince sneaks into the set of one of his shows. Can you feel it, him singin as a more rockin version than the movie version. Could Crystal Ball Pt. 2 be around the corner. Come on Prince give Dez a musiciology lesson how funky...all do respect. I loved your cut also Dez. We miss you Dez, you were there when everything was still raw and rude. Always remembered and always thankful for the music you helped be a part of DEZ.

However, as a single it's got "Prince reject" written all over it. This woulda tanked, even in 1984. I don't agree with that at all. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. yes, considering that "Jungle Love" and "Sex Shooter" were both Top 10 Hits, it's a good bet "Modernaire" would have been too If André Cymone could have a top ten R&B hit with "The Dance Electric" a year later then I don't see why "Modernaire" couldn't have done just as well riding the coattails of the Purple Rain movie. But "Sex Shooter" was not a top ten hit.

It has some cool ass lyrics too:
I want to be a paper junkie I want to make long green I'd never steal to sell my body Unless I stole a limousine I want to swim in the water Want to breath Moderaire Want to surface a new human being Breath of cold despair And I love this line: pessimistic attitudes Never will I wear This track always makes me think of that scene in the film where this song is played. I always see Jerome's smiling ass standing at the bar and the crowd doing that dip dance they were doing in unison. And I can't leave out my man in Dez's band. U know that motherfucker in the red suit next to Dez who was having a straight seizure while he was playing. I laugh hard as hell everytime I see that cat. I'm always like "What in the fuck is homeboy supposed to be doing?!" SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

This is actually a great find!!!
Thanks for sharing the link! I know it was released on a limited edition compilation from Dez, himself, but it's nice to get a download. To be honest, I've never heard the full version. I'm gonna jam it right now... PROST! update So, what is that chick saying in the background??? Interesting guitar effects. The keyboards are also without boundries at times. To me, this was a strange musical tangent for Prince. I could say he should try more boldness, but I guess it depends on his collaborator? Nice to have the song, finally. Thanks, again for the link! I'll look in my Billboard books when I get home, but I know for sure that "Sex Shooter" didn't even break the top 20 on the R&B chart. #85 on the Hot 100 sounds correct, though.

That's correct."Sex Shooter" was far from being a hit record. It got alot of airplay on R&B stations but it never became a big hit and it didn't reach the Top 20 on the R&B charts.(By comparison,"Nasty Girl" went Top 10 R&B).Similarly,Vanity's solo single from this period,"Pretty Mess",was bombing as well.

I wish they would do a 'Revolution - where are they now' Dez needs some screen time for sure. I think after him Prince went to generic looking musicians. Dez was a favorite of the ladies

I downloaded the Dez Dickerson Original version from www.bleep.com. It's great to finally get this track, but I would probably have appreciated it even more 24 years ago. (Gosh, has it been that long already?) FREE THE 29 MAY 1993 COME CONFIGURATION!

Yeah,"Sex Shooter" is okay, but it's real gimmick-y with silly lyrics."Nasty Girl" is a stone-cold Minneapolis funk jam.To this day,I still hear it in clubs. It's an extremely funky dance track that still sounds nasty and aggressive.

INAYA DAY did a nice updated version of Nasty Girl with Remixes, very dance friendly, it came out in Australia only. It's a shame Modernaire wasn't also put out on CD, I guess its a download world these days - nice vinyl though.
