I talked to him about 8 months ago. He's still producing and writing. A.C.'s my cat and all but uh, I gotta say Mark Brown was P's best bassist. My opinion of course.

I have to give a nod to Sonny T. From what I heard, Sonny T. is THE cat that Prince learned a helluva lot from and Sonny was in the mix to replace Andre but Brownmark got the nod....NOT BAD EITHER WAY!!!!!

Yeah, I remember reading that the only thing that stopped Sonny getting the job in '82 was that at the time he was (shall we say) 'pleasantly plump'. Prince said something to the effect that he could have the job if he got in shape, and it seems it took him a good 8 years to do so . Yeah, I know that Sonny was "The Man" when P was getting his thing together musically when he was a kid. Sonny, along with Stevie and Todd, inspired P to be a multi-instrumentalist. Sonny was doing multi-track recordings at his crib. P got hip to that from Sonny. P idolized Sonny in that regard. So when A.C. bounced, P went to Sonny, asking him to join. It was actually Mark's band Fantasy, who called Sonny up asking him if he would be interested in joining their band. P was inspired by Sonny and learned from Sonny...Sonny took the time to hip P to a few things that P would go on to use BUT P couldn't take the time to tell Sonny HIMSELF that he decided to go with Mark. THEN years later, he wants Sonny. Who by the way was STILL heavy! Yeah, I like Sonny's playing and he's cool cuz he's THE o.g. But personally, I think Mark was the baddest cat to ever play with P on bass. Mark had the deep tone in his sound and he had what I called the "drag". Mark "dragged" some of his notes, which makes what he's playing on the bass even funkier. Larry and Bootsy owned this and Prince, especially on his 1999 album, did this at times. Mark had it plus nobody could out slang Mark on the bass either. Mark could thump and pop and still never slip out of pocket. All the while doing a step for step dance rountine with P on When Doves Cry live. It goes without saying that all of the bassists who played with P were good. U had to be. Just my opinion, Mark was my favorite.

I knew about them married back in the day. It was mentioned in a magazine interview (maybe right on, Ebony or Essence???.. a cover story about Jody Watlety) .. this was after "lookin' for a new love" but before the CD that AC produced for her...

I seemed to recall that they were involved while cutting the CD and then got married after the CD was out. Jody had 1 kid from a previous relationship and then had 1 with AC. I can't remember when she had the baby....
