I'm considering... The Time

After the purple marathon this past labor day, I've been considering getting a couple of albums from The Time. I saw a whole bunch of their videos during the protege block and I must admit Morris and his crew caught my attention. wink

Any suggestions?

And how easy will they be to obtain? lol

Now I regret not picking up that copy of "Ice Cream Castles" when I was at an FYE that carried it (and it had it for a good price too).
had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

Man, I'm finding it hard as hell trying to find a Morris Day album. I've been hunting "What Time Is It?" for near onto two months, and have turned up nothing. (Just some other album called "The Color of Success")

Part of me feels likme I'll have to go a The Time show, approach Morris and personally ask him for a cd in order to get one. It's exasperating! eek

How are they being held back? They're on iTunes and Amazon. Anybody who wants those albums can have them.

You should pick up ALL of The Time albums as well as Morris' first 2 solo albums. Excellent material.

What time is it is the Coolest album of all Time. That would be my first one I would get. My second favorite is Pandemonium. Next I would get The First album(the Time) and then Ice Cream castles. If you go further and get Morris's solo albums, get Color of Success and then Daydreaming, stay away from Guaranteed unless you just have to have everything

I agree that it is the weakest of the Time albums.

The Time's albums (especially the debut) are an ESSENTIAL part of any Prince collection.

NOPE!!!

This one is

nod yup..

feeling ill overproduced and too many damn interludes.....and the songs.....just crap disbelief its evident why Prince produce the first 3 albums, instead allowin the band to...too many egos destroyed this album

Definitely overproduced--but wasn't it overproduced by Prince, not by the band? It's too bad. Songs that could have been amazing were turned into ear-sores. And that album cover is just atrocious.

Wrong
Pandemonium, Jerk Out, Chcolate, Sometime I get lonely and two of the best songs the band ever did Blondie and Skillet

I'll take those any day over Ice Cream castles. The Bird is a cool tune, but if I never heard it again that would be fine with me.My Drawers and Jungle Love kick ass. Kid and Chili Sauce are ok every once in a while and the title track is the worst song the band ever did

You can really tie each of the Time albums to the Prince album of the same period.

The Time (slef-titled 1st album) = Prince (self-titled second album)

What Time is It = Controversy

Ice Cram Castles = Purple Rain

So if you prefer Prince's 2nd album over Purple Rain, you'll probably like the Time's 1st album more than Ice Cream Casltes and vice versa.

I suppose the exception is Pandemonium which takes its input more from the actual band members than Prince so it doesn't really have a Prince album to equate itself to.

And don't forget there are a bunch of Time songs on the Graffiti Bridge soundtrack. I also recommend tracking down the CD single for 'Shake'. You'll probably have to go to eBay for that one, though.

I agree. I'll take almost anything on Pandemonium over Ice Cream Castles. How can anyone NOT like "Blondie" over "Ice Cream Castles"(the song)?

I thought pandemonium was a good album. The problem was the timing
of the album. The album came out when new jack swing and hip hop
was taking over. I actually like this album better than ice cream
castles. And yes the title track ice cream castles was weak.
The whole side 1 of pandemonium was the shit. Side 2 was when the
album melted down a little. The skillet was cool.
I'm surprise no one is showing love for Donald Trump(black version). lol

I think the big problem most people have with Pandemonium is that it wasn't the standard six tracks that the other 3 had. If you take the first album. I think you have 4 great tracks, 2 ok ones, What time is it. 5 great tracks, one OK, Ice Cream castles. 2 great tracks, one good, 2 Ok, 1 horrible.

Now you get to Pandemonium and you get 15 tracks(10 songs, 5 segues) I rate 3 great tracks,2 very good, 1 good and 4 Ok, Hell I even love two of the segues, one of them is a ring tone on my phone cool

The other thing I think some folks dwell on is that the actual band did most of the album and it wasn't a total Prince project with Morris singing.I would say from 80-87 NOBODY could touch Prince, but by the time pandemonium came out he was(and still is) hit and miss and I would just a soon have the actual band members do their thang. Just take a listen to Corporate World and try and tell me that was better than Pandemonium

So yeah its not what Time is it(nothing is), but I'll take it over the other 2 any day of the week

Anyway's

Like what was already said. Too each his own

I think I'm only considering some of the earlier albums by The Time where they had that 80's R&B sound.

The few songs I've heard from the 2 albums I've mentioned have that sound and is why "What time is it?" and "Ice cream castles" are on my list. And the latter, I've at least seen in stores wink again I regret the fact I didn't get it when I had the chance.
But on 7/7/07, I kinda had already spent over $100 on a whole bunch of Prince albums and other artists I'd wanted to get for a while. falloff I really did go overboard that day. It was insane.
